Another "Pygmalian"-esque plotline. You guys know this by heart. In order to be a cool girl, Tai (Brittany Murphy) must first get makeover. The over-arching message is that the key to happiness is love, and it can be love without money (kind of).
Lots of people say the entire story line is lifted from Jane Austen's Emma., which was written post Enlightenment -- when, for the first time in history, people began truly marrying for love. This philosophy, which implied that people had a right to happiness, shocked social conservatives of the day.
