Jezebel is reporting that Yoplait is pulling some ads after complaints have been rolling in that the women in the ads echo the inner monologues of people with eating disorders.
I don’t want to get into that (except to say I really wish the whole planet could get past the concept of “I ‘deserve’ to eat this or that”–we don’t really ‘deserve’ anything, food-wise, except maybe food that isn’t smeared with fecal matter) but I do want to say it’s about time Yoplait is being brought to the floor for another reason: their commercials give the impression that dessert flavored yogurt is as good as dessert, and that is simply not true. Last night, after the Vancouver Canucks lost Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals (we’re talking hockey here), fans of the team lost their shizz, taking to the streets and rioting. I truly cannot comprehend why human beings would destroy property, light cars on fire, and loot businesses in their hometown, especially over something as irrelevant as a sporting game. I am genuinely disturbed. Strippers, guns, rap music, booty shaking, gangstas … why, it’s the most offensive, sexist
political ad you’ve ever seen. This NSFW commercial called “Hahn’s Homeboyz” begins to criticize Janice Hahn, a Los Angeles City Councilwoman running for a Democratic Congressional seat, for her proposal to use “taxpayer money” to hire former gang members in prison “so they could rape and kill again!” I mean, so they could teach current gang members how to quit the life. Which, uh, actually doesn’t sound like a bad idea, when you think about it.
