You think composing pithy Facebook status updates and slyly stalking your exes via the social networking site isn’t bothering anybody, right? Well, you’re wrong. Your Facebook usage is ruining the economy. Just ask Michael Fitzpatrick, an analyst at ConnectSolutions who discovered the huge toll Facebook has taken on our productivity and general will to live (am I right, guys?). According to Mr. Fitzpatrick, the average worker spends around seven minutes a day on Facebook (this number seems astronomically low to us). And if you multiply that times the roughly 48 million Internet-connected working people in the U.S., that’s around 336,000,000 wasted minutes per day, around the country. In the course of the day, that’s costing businesses $140 million, and annually, it adds up to $280 billion dollars in lost productivity. That’s a lot of widgets we’re not making while checking our status updates instead.
Well, at least we’re not hanging out on Myspace. That would truly be a waste of time. [TheFitzpatricks.net] Keep reading »
What’s better than having sex on your office desk? Doing it on the hood of your squad car, in uniform, if you happen to be a state trooper. Apparently, a guy was caught doing just this in broad daylight by a security camera a few weeks ago. And the dude is even still wearing his belt and gun! So far, no officers have been charged in this case—and, uh, what exactly would the charge be?—but it sure looks like the guy’s face is visible, so it’s only a matter of time. UPDATE: The Frisky has received an email from JCPenney’s corporate communications department regarding this tee shirt. You can view the email after the jump.
“I’m too pretty to do homework, so my brother has to do it for me.”
That’s the writing on a T-shirt being sold in JCPenney‘s girls department and on the store’s website, where an insult-to-injury caption reads, “Who has time for homework when there’s a new Justin Bieber album out? She’ll love this tee that’s just as cute and sassy as she is.” The buyer who approved this offensive shirt for girl customers should be fired. The fact it even made it onto the racks is proof that the bimbo-ification of girl culture is alive and well. A parent could find plenty of ways to celebrate that her girl is pretty (if the parent believes this is really something important to emphasize) without imparting the idea that pretty girls can’t or shouldn’t be smart. I have three bright, funny nieces who are 7, 5 and 5 and I never want them to believe the message on this shirt is true. I wholeheartedly encourage Frisky readers to sign the petition against this demeaning T-shirt — and get your little daughters/sisters to sign it, too! [Change.org] Keep reading »
Who is to blame for Mother Earth’s metastasizing environmental crisis? Women, of course. Are we tossing out too many sanitary napkins? Drinking too many lattes in cardboard cups? Well, yes, but this is more serious. Us ladies are “wasting” billions of liters of water every year leaving the water running while we shave our legs. According to a survey by the UK water company Thames Water, a third of women leave the water running while we shave our legs in the shower, which amounts to enough “wasted” water every year to supply London with acqua for 25 days.

Michele Bachmann‘s Tea Party politics are not to everyone’s taste. Her hair? That’s another story. Women getting their hair did are supposedly asking for her chic, political ‘do, which is a rich brown with caramel highlights. “A lot of clients have asked for Sarah Palin hair in the past four years, and now, it’s Bachmann,” a stylist at a hair salon in Los Angeles told The New York Daily News. Added a stylist at a salon in New York City, Bachmann’s hair is “safe, but not soccer mom. It’s sexy.” Keep reading »
