Sure signs you’re in a responsible grownup’s apartment: there’s an actual bed frame, not just a mattress and a box spring; there’s the good, soft, thick kind of toilet paper in the bathroom; and there is a set of coasters on the coffee table. Everyone knows cup rings scream “stuck in adolescence.” Project the air of maturity we know you possess to all future house guests with this chic and earthy set of clay and glass coasters by potter Kelly Brooks. Pretty and functional, hooray!
When I was growing up, one of life’s greatest pleasures was going over to my grandmother’s house and making Coke slushies and microwaved s’mores. These days, I can still make s’mores when I’ve got the hankering, but my homemade slushie cravings have long gone unquenched because I lacked the proper device — but not anymore! The Slush Mug is back, baby! This retro mug miraculously turns your favorite tasty beverage into frozen slush thanks to the highly scientific “Glaciercore.” Plus, now that I’m of age, I can use it to make alcoholic versions of my old favorites. Jack and Coke Slushies, anyone?
On a recent boiling hot summer day, we were on a stroll, dripping with sweat from head to ass to toe, craving something cool and refreshing. An answer to our prayers came in the form of a woman selling what she called paletas (also known as “Mexican ice pops”). Not your average popsicle, these babies are packed with fruit and other fresh flavors in wicked combinations like mango-chile, horchata-strawberry, and dulce de leche. We were in heaven. Imagine our delight when we discovered that there was a cookbook — called Palepas: Authentic Recipes for Mexican Ice Pops, Shaved Ice & Aguas Frescas — filled with recipes for these easy-to-make treats. Now all future cravings can be satiated in our — and your! — own kitchen. Hallelujah!

Since I’m not the most creative person when it comes to fitness, I asked you to give me your easy, fuss-free exercise tips. Many of you suggested I begin running or walking, instead of working out in the small inside space I have available. You’ve definitely convinced me to use the several-miles long park that is right across the street from my home. But what were some of Frisky readers’ other creative tips? Keep reading »
Earlier this year, I decided that my personal trainer wasn’t a necessity. I told myself that I could save the money I paid him, while employing the exercises he taught me and taking advantage of BeFitNYC, NYC’s free or low-cost fitness program. But you know what? I got lazy … big surprise right? So, now I’ve got a tricycle tire around my mid-section, a droopy butt, and fat knees. I need help! Please reveal your easy, fuss-free, and dare I say fun at home/free exercise tips in the comments. Hopefully, these exercises can be performed in a 3′ x 5′ floor space because that’s all the room I have. And look out for a post of all the good tips next week. Keep reading »
