Bono Isn’t The Only Famous Godparent

By now you’ve probably heard that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have asked Bono to be godfather to their twins Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline. And that Ashlee Simpson-Wentz and Pete Wentz are considering John Mayer for godfather of their unborn child. I’ve never really thought about famous godparents probably because I’ve never really had a great relationship with my own godparents, except for my late Uncle Eddie. However, when this news broke, we at The Frisky decided to research other famous godparents and realized some of these relationships are really surprising.

Aretha Franklin is godmother to Whitney Houston.

Stephen Spielberg and Sophia Loren are Drew Barrymore’s godparents.

Spielberg is also Gwyneth Paltrow’s godfather.

Drew Barrymore is godmother to Frances Bean Cobain.

Jennifer Aniston is godmother to Coco, daughter of Courteney Cox and David Arquette. (Yeah, we know, no surprise there.)

Sting and his wife Trudie Styler are godparents to Rocco, son of Madonna and Guy Ritchie.

The late Heath Ledger was godfather to Elizabeth Hurley’s son, Damien Charles. (That’s kind of random, right? If anyone knows the connection, please post it in the comments.)

Jake Gyllenhaal is godfather to Michelle Williams and Ledger’s daughter, Matilda.

Jamie Lee Curtis is Jake Gyllenhaal’s godmother.

Michael Jackson is Nicole Richie’s godfather.

Elizabeth Taylor and Macaulay Culkin are godparents to Prince Michael Joseph Junior, Jackson’s son.

Sadie Frost and Jude Law are godparents to Lila Moss, daughter of Kate Moss.

Kate Moss is godmother to Jude Law and Sadie Frost’s daughter, Iris Law.

Johnny Depp is godfather to Billy Ray, son of Tim Burton and Helena Bonham Carter.

Timothy Leary, the “godfather of LSD,” is also Winona Ryder’s godfather.

The late Andy Warhol was godfather to Bijou Phillips.

Our Amelia is godmother to Maddox Jolie-Pitt. [Just kidding, I made that one up! What?—Editor]
