11 Things Your Hairdresser Really Wants You To Know

Horrible Haircuts
How these very bad haircuts went down. Read More »

It’s hard out there for a hairdresser. They have to be talented, tactful, efficient, and up to date on the latest trends and techniques. They have to be able to create wearable art on people’s heads while discussing salacious celebrity gossip. I’m totally in awe of the people who do this job, and when I go in for a hair cut or color, I’m always wondering how I can make their job easier and walk out with the best possible results. With that in mind, I talked to as many hairdressers as I could find and asked them one question: What do you really want your clients to know? Here are their answers, in their own words … Keep reading »

20 Celebs Who’ve Dip-Dyed Or Streaked Their Hair

Earlier this week, Lauren Conrad arrived at a book signing — for her fourth novel, The Fame Game (the first book in a new trilogy) – with a decidedly noticeable new ‘do. Her hair was pulled back in a lady-like high ponytail … the ends of which were dyed a florescent hot pink. Conrad has dip-dyed her hair before, but this is her brightest go at it yet and I love it! I’ve been thinking of doing something similar, maybe even just for a couple weeks before my next big hair cut. Winona has pink streaks in her blonde hair, while our girl Kate Torgovnick has been rocking a single blue streak for years — and both look fab. What do you think of the look? [TooFab]

Wait, before you answer, let’s look at more examples of this punky trend in action. I was sort of surprised to discover just how many celeb ladies had either dip-dyed their hair or added colorful streaks to their locks — and I’m not just talking about the Nicki Minaj’s of the world. Click on to see what I mean and then tell me whether this is a look you’d try!

DIY Ombre Hair In 4 Easy Steps

I’m someone who rarely gets her hair cut and almost never dyes it. The last and only time I did anything was in 10th grade when I dyed the underside of my hair fire-engine red to accompany my totally rad side bangs and sweet Saves the Day hoodie. Besides those years, I have always had very dark brown, wavy, boring hair (Ed. Note: Preposterous. Her hair is beautiful). Fast forward 5 years, and although my style and taste in music has improved a bit, I still have the same exact haircut and color as I did when I was 18. Keep reading »

7 Secrets For Styling Curly Hair

My Curly Hair
Ami decided to embrace her curly hair and stop straightening forever. Read More »

As the only curly-haired girl here at The Frisky, I have hereby appointed myself de facto curl expert. Many of you have asked how I style my curly ‘do, and I want to try to address all of your questions. I strongly believe that curly girls should let their hair be in its natural state. I know how liberated I felt when I embraced my curly hair. The only problem is: Curly hair can be quirky, unpredictable, temperamental and often a bitch to style. But once you get a routine down, it sure beats the time you would have spent straightening. I don’t miss that at all! I can’t speak for every curly hair type, but click through for my secret styling tips.

Hair Dos: 5 Quick Fixes For Greasy Roots

Greasy roots are pretty much the bane of my existence, and the main reason I wash my hair so often. Whether you want to extend time between shampoos, are prone to oily hair, or woke up late and didn’t have time to shower this morning, here are a few cheap and easy solutions for greasy roots …

Anne Hathaway Goes Super Short, Plus 17 Other Gorgeous Women Who’ve Recently Rocked The Pixie Cut

This weekend, I received a single-sentence introductory message from a guy on OKCupid. “Have you ever considered cutting your hair short?” he asked, not signing his name or telling me anything about himself or really anything else that made me inclined to respond. Is he negging me? I thought. Is he saying I look bad with longer hair? I was being paranoid, of course, but the truth is, going super short terrifies me because I’m afraid I would look, well, terrible.

Then I came home and saw this photo of Anne Hathaway, who just chopped off all her hair, like, super short, for her role is “Les Miserables,” in which she plays a struggling factory worker who is forced into prostitution and winds up selling her hair to make ends meet. (She also is supposedly on a horrific-sounding 500-calorie-per-day diet, in order to lose 15 lbs. for the role.) First of all, I totally commend Anne Hathaway for her dedication to her craft. But doesn’t she look so … uncomfortable in this photo? Like she’s not happy with her new look. Dammit, Anne — I’m pretending Anne is reading this — you look awesome! You have balls I don’t have! Wear that super short pixie cut with pride! And if you need inspiration, may I direct you to the long list of gorgeous and talented actresses who have also gone super-short in the last few years? Keep clicking to see these fab ladies who’ve lopped off their locks — and then hold your head high!
