Batshit Woman Gets Parole After Running Over Her Cheating Husband and Killing Him
She's going to be a free woman once again
Clara Harris of Friendswood, Texas was happily married to David Harris on Valentine’s Day in 1992. The couple had two children together and David’s daughter from a previous marriage, and they opened a string of successful dentist offices that netted them millions. Unfortunately, David wasn’t as happy with the marriage as Clara was. He began an affair with his receptionist Gail Bridges in 2001.
Clara had suspicions that something was going on between the two — Gail herself flaunted the fact that her paycheck was getting larger all the time. Clara set out to find where her husband was really going on the night of July 24, 2002. It was a night that would end in tragedy.
Clara found her husband and his mistress at the Nassau Bay Hilton, the same hotel where Clara married David 10 years before. Gail explained what happened next to ABC13: “We were leaving the hotel and I was looking at David and I noticed all of a sudden his face changed. And I went to look at the direction, and then we saw her.”
Gail claimed that Clara approached them and started punching her in the face. Soon enough, Clara fled to the parking lot. David walked his mistress to her car, but a silver Mercedes Benz barreled down upon them. Clara headed straight for the cheating couple with her 17-year-old stepdaughter Lindsay in the passenger seat.
Footage of the event was captured by a private investigator from Blue Moon Investigations who was hired by Clara, and it appeared to show Clara running over David and striking Gail several times.
Clara was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. The video footage and the testimony of David’s daughter helped to put Clara behind bars for 20 years. She was sentenced to prison on February 14, 2003, her eleventh wedding anniversary.
Gail was saddened by her lover’s death, but didn’t feel that she did anything wrong. She said, “I do not regret or will ever regret that I got to know him and that he became part of my life. He once told me that he would like to spend the rest of his life with me, and he did. This was an unfortunate tragedy and it did not have to end this way.”
After 15 years, Clara is set to be released on parole; she was denied parole twice, but finally won the privilege to get out of Mountain View Unit correctional facility. She will be on supervised parole for the next three years. She may not have much of her millions left, however. She had to pay her stepdaughter $2 million at the conclusion of a wrongful death suit. In 2007, she paid David’s parents $3.75 million in a similar suit.
Clara’s attorney Emily Detoto said about the early release, “It’s about time. It’s been long enough.”
