In a New Relationship? What to Do About Valentine’s Day
It doesn't have to be awkward
If your relationship is only three weeks old, you might want to skip this year’s Valentine’s Day. Or you could invite them over for pizza, beer, and horror movies for a casual, no-frill night in.
Or you can spend it with your single friends doing the exact same thing.
If you are at the three month mark, they you should both acknowledge that Valentine’s is coming up. Start with a conversation about how they feel about the holiday in general and go from there. Some people detest V-Day (I will go into Hulk mode and rant about my hatred for it) and others love being lovey dovey.
If YOU want to do something for Valentine’s Day, then speak up! Ask your new partner something like, “How would you feel about going out to dinner on Valentine’s Day?” Also, give them a heads up if you are getting them a gift, so they have time to get you one.
For a budding relationship, I would agree on a cap to spend on gifts, say $30? Because it will definitly be awkward if you got them a new designer watch and they got you a $25 gift card to Walgreens.

“With a one-month partner, how much can you expect? Mark the day and acknowledge that we’re in this new liking relationship,” says Joy Harden Bradford, PhD to Refinery29. “It doesn’t have to be extravagant.”
“If you’ve been dating for a short time, like three months or less, then spending too much can be a bit creepy,” relationship coach Cathryn Mora tells Bustle. “I’d suggest cooking a nice candlelit meal at home.”
If neither of you can cook, you can always order delivery (NO Meixcan or Indian food), plate it up nicely, light candles, and turn on some classic jazz.
Take turns giving each other mini massages and have fun in bed, or go play video games together if that’s more your style.
