Is America suffering from ‘Tweenophilia’ aka the over-sexualizing of young teens/tweens?

College Candy seems to think so and they point out several instances where the media seemingly lusts after young girls especially in the case of the New York Observer who talks about 15 year old Taylor Momsen (Gossip Girl):

“Ms. Momsen has emerged as the show’s true It Girl: admired, lusted after and, of course, scorned.”
“Boys and men—in their teens and 20s and beyond—can’t help but be drawn to her coltish beauty…”
“She is tall and striking, and that day was dressed like other young teens out on the street—jean cutoffs, a white T-shirt that hung casually off a slender shoulder…but with that indefinable shimmering charisma that had fellow Pinkberry patrons of all ages doing a double take”
“Her legs are epic, long and stretching out from here to forever.”

I consider myself a pretty progressive person, but even I have to agree that teens/tweens are just way too sexualized now. It’s sad to think that the innocence of youth is probably going to disappear soon (if it hasn’t already) due to the media and questionable parenting. I remember being in a hurry to grow up when I was in junior/high school and now that I am, I really wish I could turn back the clock and enjoy my younger days more.

I love baths for relaxation, and I’ve noticed that most of my friends, my mom, etc., do too. However, I’ve never had a boyfriend who regularly enjoyed taking baths. Sure, maybe an occasional romantic bath, but not a regular thing. Thoughts on why? Would love to hear perspective from both men and women.

The man I work for, not only owns the company I work for, but he’s an alpha male type. My job is to do whatever he throws my way, even if half the time he is extremely rude or the tasks are extremely impractical. I am your typical pink-collar worker: an administrative assistant. I consider myself to be a fairly smart person, but I am young and do not have many professional credentials. This is my first job working in an office environment and over the past few months I have picked it up quite well. Over this time, I have noticed the irrational decisions my boss makes regarding company matters. Of course, I keep that to myself. Recently though, he wanted me to do something that I thought was a waste of time and money. I did some research on it and everything I read backed my opinion. He kept pressuring me to get it done, but I voiced that I wasn’t going to do it and that there were better ways to do it. He wouldn’t listen to me, then brought me into his office where he talked down to me like I had the IQ of 70. Finally I just said “No.” He was furious, but he let it go. The next day I checked my email and he had sent me some daily affirmations crap about some man who treated everyone around him with smiles and great interest, like they were all “Presidents of companies.” LOL. So does standing up for myself and trying to get him to listen to me constitute having a “bad attitude”? I generally do everything he wants, but I don’t feel like I have to be an ass kisser when someone talks down to me.

With all of the overpopulation in the world and the strain on the environment that we are causing, isn’t it irresponsible to have as many children as they have had?

What are your thoughts on the situation?

I personally feel that with so many children out there who need loving homes, it would be shameful for me to not consider adoption (in addition to having my own) in my life (which I totally intend to do in a few years).

After becoming pregnant a few months ago I had to decide whether or not I wanted a natural childbirth or a medically assisted childbirth (Epidural, etc). I’m opting for the natural route, and will be giving birth at a huge hospital that has a natural birthing center in addition to the regular maternity wing. There were a few reasons for wanting to have a natural childbirth, but mainly I want to experience the whole act and feel that sense of accomplishment and closeness after it’s all done.

I am surprised to learn that many women nowadays are opting to go for the medically assisted route for childbirth and I was wondering what everyone here at The Frisky thinks on the subject. Are you for natural or do you want want painkillers or a c-section?
