Republican Rep.’s Spokesman: “Hurl Some Acid” On Female Democratic Senators

  • The campaign spokesperson for Rep. Nan Hayworth (R-NY), a guy named Jay Townsend, wrote a Facebook message about senators who support the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act but paid their male staffers more than their female staffers.  Townsend wrote, “Let’s hurl some acid at those female democratic Senators who won’t abide the mandates they want to impose on the private sector.” It never fails to shock me how dumb people in politics can be when it comes to writing Facebook comments.   • North Carolina’s General Assembly passed a bill that will grant reparations of $50,000 to poor women and women of color who were forcibly sterilized between 1929 and 1974. [Jezebel]

Nuns Reprimanded By Vatican For “Radical Feminism”

  • Leaders from a group representing the majority of U.S. Catholic nuns will meet with the Vatican this week to discuss a concern that nuns are enveloped with “radical feminist themes.” [CNN]
  • A women’s health clinic in New Orleans was destroyed last week by an arsonist. Women With a Vision offers HIV testing and assists many low-income women, women of color, and sex workers. Last week, two abortion clinics in Georgia were both set on fire. The FBI is investigating those Georgia fires as possible anti-abortion clinic violence. [Think Progress]

Two abortion clinics have recently experienced suspicious fires, so the FBI announced on Wednesday that it will investigate the incidents as arson.

The first occurred at Atlanta Gynecology and Obstetrics on Sunday; The second fire occurred at the Alpha OB/GYN clinic in Marietta, Georiga on Wednesday. Thankfully no one was hurt in either incident. Keep reading »

Army Women Sue For Frontline Combat Roles

  • Two female Army reservists are suing the government to overturn the ban on women in front-line combat roles. The women have pointed out that the ban will restrict their careers and affect future earnings, promotion, advancement and retirement benefits. Elsewhere in the military, the Pentagon has changed policies to open up 14,000 additional positions to women. [San Francisco Gate]
  • Also, a defense authorization bill proposed in the Senate today would authorize women for frontline combat positions. The proposal was offered by Senator Kristen Gillibrand (D-NY). [Huffington Post]
  • Senator Barbara Mikulski is pushing an expansion of the 1962 Equal Pay Act, which limits circumstances in which men and women could be paid differently. The bill would also allow employees to sue employers if they can prove they were unfairly treated. [Huffington Post] Keep reading »

President Bill Clinton co-hosted a party with Prince Albert of Monaco and took a photograph with three beautiful young women.

Those women just happened to be porn stars. According to The Atlantic Wire, one woman is Brooklyn Lee, who appeared in the porn flick “Secretaries 4″; another is Tasha Reign, who appeared in “Farm Girls Gone Bad”; and the third woman has been identified as someone named Jennifer Taule. Everyone from Page Six to the UK’s Daily Mail is falling over themselves over “Bubba and the porn babes.”
