It’s a totally beautiful day today and amidst all the drama in the world, the tabloids are miraculously upbeat. Everyone lost a bunch of weight and celebs are being really nice to each other this week. Most importantly, Sandra Bullock has a new baby! I know I should have given you guys a spoiler alert, but I’m so excited. And so you can be just as happy as I am, we’ve rounded up the top stories from this week’s tabloids in a convenient cheat sheet. We wouldn’t want you to get a paper-cut or anything. Keep reading »
Breaking news: half-naked women — especially while washing cars dressed like slave Princess Leia from “Star Wars” — get publicity. We’ll have to watch “Attack of The Show,” which threw Saturday’s slave Princess Leia car wash fundraiser, to see if the program actually gets charitable donations, though. What exactly does it take for a woman to embrace the idea of being a feminist? Two of our favorite writers, Courtney E. Martin (who wrote Perfect Girls, Starving Daughters) and J. Courtney Sullivan (the lady who brought us Commencement), have joined forces to answer this question. In their awesome new anthology Click: Young Women On The Moments They Knew They Were Feminists, the Courtneys have collected essays from 30 young, female writers. Read one of them after the jump. And look for a second and third installment later this week. Keep reading »
Picking the men and women for People‘s annual “Most Beautiful Issue” has to be a fun a job—I wonder what exactly constitutes research? But I’ve always wondered how they choose the MOST, MOST beautiful person out of all of the residents of Beautiful-land. My personal theory is that they pick whoever is willing to give them the longest interview and if that is true, Julia Roberts must sure like to blab. Today, the annual issue was released, and she has been chosen the beautifulest for the fourth time. (I’m going to go out on a limb and assume that the photo above was probably envisioned as the full cover, but was bumped to a small size because of Sandra Bullock’s bombshell adoption news.) Julia graced the cover as the most beautiful back in 1991, 2000 and 2005 and she’s also made the list a whopping 12 times. Obviously, Julia is gorgeous and I do think it’s cool that the magazine broke its 20-something woman or 40-something guy rut by choosing a 42-year old lady for top honors. But still, it shows a serious lack of creativity.
Personally, I think they should have run with Sandra Bullock and killed two birds with one stone—they could’ve easily added her to the Most Beautiful People spread, and also gotten the extra mileage of dynamite news story and that adorable baby photo. Who would you have cast to open the “Beautiful People” package? Keep reading »
Those “True Blood” posters are great and all, but I really miss the action. Now, HBO is building up to the June 13 premiere with minisodes written by series creator Alan Ball. In the first minisode, Eric and Pam are auditioning dancers for Fangtasia, but the talent in the Shreveport/Bon Temps area sucks. That is until a saucy siren walks in… Keep reading »
It’s Tuesday and you know what that means, folks, it’s time for some fresh jams! This week, our fave electric guitar-slinging kook (and major blabbermouth), Courtney Love, claims Hole for drug money and glory. The Eastern Block is rallying with Gogol Bordello and the Balkan Beat Box. Jesse Malin & Saint Mark’s Social glam up life in New York like they’re the rock version of Jay-Z and Alicia Keys. Two Door Cinema drops a hot redhead. Avi Buffalo is the new Beach Boy. And the sweet Mynabirds are taking us higher, down south, and back to the ‘60s. So get those headphones on, ’cause we’re gonna rock out, after the jump! Keep reading »
Christian free-styler, Tamara Lowe, knows that best way into the kingdom of heaven is with a little motivational slam poetry for the Lord. Moral of story sinners: pop culture is crap, Jesus is where it’s at. In fact, he’s a superstar. How fresh would this sound over a hot beat? All she needs is a big, gold chain.
