Spruce Up Your Wardrobe With DIY Studs

Studs have been going strong for a while now, but lately we’ve noticed some innovation on the trend. Instead of sticking with classic pyramid nailheads, big-time labels like Prada and Givenchy are embellishing apparel and accessories with ornaments of different shapes. Carey Mulligan‘s Prada Oscar gown had tiny scissors, utensils, and washers sewn in among sequins, and stars and spirals adorn a pair of amazing Givenchy heels.

These high-fashion items gave us an idea: Why not attach odd-shaped studs to clothes in our own closets? Keep reading »

DIY Laptop Case From Your Old Hoodie

OK, this is just plain cool. Someone over at Conceptual Devices got crafty with a simple gray hoodie and thought of the multiple functions it can serve. The product of their brainstorm turned into a feature called “Just Undo It,” where they mold a simple hoodie into a variety of different things including a pillow, a hand bag, and even a laptop carrier, which is perfect for the writer on the go. And I’m totally memorizing the pillow trick for my next car trip. [Conceptual Devices] Keep reading »

DIY Your Own Paint-Splattered Shoes—Save A Bundle

Who needs to spend $795 on this pair of Alexander McQueen (RIP!) lace-ups when you can easily DIY ‘em for a teeny amount of money (not to mention a decent amount of fun!)? So, here’s how to do it: Dig up your old pair of bucks or lace-ups from back in the day (or for those who didn’t go through a massive tomboy phase, like myself, buy a cheapie pair here or here!)—any color will do, extra points for the ones with the red soles! When scouring for the perfect shoe, keep in mind that suede, in this case, is a very good thing (the paint will really stick to it!). Then get yourself some paints: I like fabric paints the best, like these. Pick four colors you’re into; reserve one to use as an accent color (meaning you won’t use too much of it). Check out the way the dark blue was used (sparingly), above. Either outside or in a space you don’t care about, get splattering! [Trend Hunter] Keep reading »
