Kate Winslet And Sam Mendes Split, Proving Our Oscar Theory Right

Ugh. I hate to say it, but we called it. Oscar winner Kate Winslet and her husband, director Sam Mendes, have announced that they’ve split. As you may recall, we hypothesized that a woman winning the Best Actress Oscar is almost certainly the kiss of death for her romantic relationship — Kate Winslet, who won for her work in “The Reader,” was the only example in recent years of this theory not proving true. Until now, that is. Sadz. Sometimes we hate it when we’re right. [LA Times] Keep reading »

Kathryn Bigelow Meets Guys At Work — So What?

kathryn bigelow

Academy Award winner Kathryn Bigelow may be dating Mark Boal, the “Hurt Locker” screenwriter. Her ex-husband is James Cameron. This makes Kathryn, according to Gawker, a jobsexual: “a person who either works so much, or loves so much to work that she always seems to end up dating the guy one desk over.” But what’s so weird about meeting someone at work? Even non-workaholics spend most of their waking hours on the job, and if you can manage to perform well at work (which Kathryn has, with two Oscars to prove it) and find someone to smooch, what’s the issue? Should we start calling women who always date guys they meet at bars “barsexuals”? Keep reading »

A Fake Tan Gave Kelly Osbourne Confidence?

Kelly Osbourne has talked a lot about how “Dancing with the Stars” helped her gain confidence, but apparently getting a spray tan helped, too. As the newly appointed ambassador for self-esteem issues for tanning brand St. Tropez, Kelly talked about her struggle to feel good about herself in a press release:

“It really saddens me that so many young people suffer from low self-esteem and feel unhappy with their appearance. I think that at times we can be very hard on ourselves, which is certainly something I have experienced in my own life. I managed to overcome those negative thoughts by being healthy, thinking positively, and making small changes to my lifestyle that make me feel good about myself, such as taking more exercise and being true to yourself. ‘Dancing With The Stars’ and having my first ever St. Tropez spray tan was a huge confidence booster for me — it helped me to get fit and allowed me to look and feel beautiful from the outside, in.”

While it’s nice that a brand normally associated with the superficial would sponsor a campaign encouraging self-esteem, doesn’t it seem odd that Kelly, whose porcelain skin looks amazing, would have to claim tanning gave her confidence? However, there’s probably not a lot of money involved in being the poster child for pale skin. [Yahoo News U.K.] Keep reading »

“I had an ingrown hair in [whispers] my groin, so I couldn’t walk! I don’t like to talk about it because it got infected, there was pus and it was nasty. There was a 90% chance they would have had to medevac me out of there but thankfully my condition improved and I finished the climb.”
