We often joke that Australia is a country of criminals, so it’s fascinating to see a little snapshot from the country’s actual criminal past. The New South Wales Police Department released around 2,500 mugshots of some of its finest female criminals picked up between 1910 and 1930. The snapshots provide a fascinating glimpse into the lives and livelihoods of the criminal underworld.
A good number the women arrested were brought in because of their involvement in the back alley illegal abortion industry, while another large subsect were charged with petty thievery. Another crime of the time — drug use and cocaine possession.
The criminal life certainly was hardknock — many of the women look much older than their rap sheets belie. Let their weathered faces be a warning to you — crime certainly doesn’t pay in moisturizing cremes. Click through to see their vintage mug shots and read their fascinating stories. [Daily Mail UK]
Don’t get us wrong, we love the rich chocolatey desserts of winter, but we’re right now we’re pretty excited about the lighter flavors of spring. Why not celebrate the upcoming season with one of these mouthwatering cupcake recipes, featuring fruity flavors and sunny colors? Bon appetit!
Add Selena Gomez to the list of people who find Zooey Deschanel “adorkable.” The singer/actress posted a photo to Instagram of her reading the latest issue ofAllure (with Deschanel on the cover), calling the “New Girl” star her “current girl crush.” I have to say, I approve of this match much more so than Selena and Justin Bieber.
Gay, straight, or whatever—every lady has a girl crush. Strangely enough, my girl crush has been Eva Mendes ever since I saw the movie “Hitch” and fell in love with her tawny skin, sexy beauty mark, and impeccable wardrobe. Guess Ryan Gosling and I have the same taste in women — surely the three of us could work something out?
Anyway, click onward for more celebrity girl crushes — and tell us, who’s yours?
We love looking at all the crazy fashions on display at fashion week, but sometimes the hair is even better. While designers like Sister by Sibling and Louise Gray took their fashion show hair to a crazy place, other designers were a bit more subdued. Either way, they’ve given us plenty of inspiration for future hairstyles. Click through to check out the cool looks on display at London Fashion Week, and check back often for more hair updates.
Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design is home to one of the world’s oldest and most well-respected fashion design programs. The school has helped launched the careers of Alexander McQueen, Jenny Packham and Givenchy’s Ricardo Tischi, among others. Each year, the school hosts a show from the fashion program’s master’s students, showcasing their offbeat and avant garde collections. Click through to see some of the school’s most wild offerings — and possible future McQueens — in action.
By now you’ve hopefully seen last night’s season two finale/Christmas special of “Downton Abbey,” in which plenty of loose-ends were tied up and anticipation was set for season three. Vanity Fair has made a bunch of funny trading cards inspired by the show — click through the gallery to see some of my favorites, then check out the rest, along with VF’s predictions for season three, at the link. This is Helen Flanagan. She’s a star in the U.K., famous for being on a show called “Coronation Street,” and, it appears, her penchant for revealing outfits. If this particular outfit is any indication, I don’t think Helen’s clothes would be quite so revealing if she just bought them in her size. Her breasts seem understandably angry about being expected to stay under wraps. They’re rebelling! Anyway, here are 11 other pairs of celeb boobs that would like to join the movement. “Titties of the world in too tight clothing, unite!”
This past weekend, the Writer’s Guild held simultaneous awards shows on both the east and west coasts. Stars — I suppose the particularly writer-friendly stars — showed their appreciation by turning out in droves. And Zooey Deschanel, who filed for divorce earlier this year, encouraged the nerdy writers to make a pass at her. Joking during the opening of the west coast awards ceremony, Deschanel said, “Welcome to Nerd Prom. Male writers, you are so hot with your minds and plaid shirts. Hit on me.” Well, okay then. Check out Deschanel’s tartan gown — and all the rest — in the gallery above…
I’m so accustomed to seeing penises scrawled on Reese Witherspoon’s face on those “This Means War” posters that it’s refreshing to see graffiti that’s not an ode to the male anatomy. Oh, I’m sorry. Are we not supposed to call it “graffiti”? Is it called “street art” because the doodles are on posters for “Mad Men,” which is a classy show? So be it. It’s “Mad Men” street art. And here are 10 that are pretty clever. [ONTD; Best Week Ever]
