Hard Candy Nail Polish Set To Make Comeback

Remember Hard Candy? It was the nail polish brand of the late ’90s, successfully marketing funky nail colors like green, silver and frosty blue. The must-have brand was a middle and high school status marker—if you wore Hard Candy (or better yet, had a collection of bottles) you told the world that you cared enough to spend way more than $1 on the Wet ‘N Wild variety, and that you loved being a trendsetter. Then somewhere along the way, Alicia Silverstone stopped wearing the shimmery sky-blue polish, and the company slowly morphed into Urban Decay, only to let Hard Candy fall to the wayside and become available only in hard-to-find ways, like on eBay.com. Well, she’s back!

Just when you thought ’70s and ’80s hair was dead and gone, the fall 2009 runways up and resurrect those looks. Spotted on the Brian Reyes runway was the one and only French Twist! But, before you skip the rest of this post and head on to the next, hear me out: This fall’s version is not what you’re thinking. Reyes’ version was sleek from the front and adorably retro in the back, making it the perfect complement to this fall’s classically shaped dresses and short hemlines. Here’s how to pull it off yourself. Keep reading »

Shaving Your Armpits Was A Huge New Trend In 1915

The fairer sex didn’t always have to spend time grooming their underarm area. Women didn’t shave their pits before about 1915 because no one ever saw that part of their body. According to Mental Floss, even the word “underarm” was considered scandalous before that time. But then designers cooked up a dress without sleeves, and an ad in Harper’s Bazaar said that to wear the style, women first needed to attend to “the removal of objectionable hair.” And we all got out our razors. Is Downsizing One’s Boobs The New Hollywood Upgrade?

Once upon a time, Drew Barrymore was referred to as voluptuous, Posh Spice‘s bosom practically spilled out of her dress, and Lindsay Lohan suddenly had the biggest boobs in town. It seems like ages since any tabloid made a ruckus over yet another celeb getting breast implants, and, let’s face it, Hollywood has always had a thing for the well-endowed starlet. So, where have all the big breasts gone? Have huge chests gone out of style? Keep reading »

Essie Wants You To Put A Judith Ripka Ring On It

Diamonds may be a girl’s best friend, but if said girl can’t afford the real thing, there’s always, erm, Essie nail polish. Essie has linked up with luxe jeweler Judith Ripka to create a trio of polishes infused with diamond dust. The polishes range from subtle pink (Put A Ripka Ring On It) to fiery red (Queen of Hearts). Although they cost $15 a pop, these are sure to be a hit–like Essie’s other summer hookup with J.Crew. For a small cosmetics line, Essie sure does get around! Indian Sex Workers To Get Free Makeovers

We weren’t sure what to make of a report on sex workers in New Delhi receiving free beauty services this weekend, as the details are somewhat shadowy. The curiously named “Salute to the Nation” initiative spearheaded by beauty and hair expert Amzadd Habibb is a 24-hour fundraising drive intended to provide services like free nail art, workshops for local sex workers on basic skills in hairstyling, beauty, and makeup application, and new beauty equipment purchases — presumably to encourage a career change. “This is my way of giving back to the society. I have always wanted to do something for these people and I was just waiting for right opportunity and right people,” Habibb told reporters. “These people,” huh? The event is being organized in conjunction with the New Delhi police. Sound suspicious? Let’s hope for the best. [Times of India] Keep reading »

Lisa Price, the owner of Carol’s Daughter, has proven herself to be a savvy businesswoman. Carol’s Daughter is not only sold on HSN but also at Sephora. Now, Price has joined Disney to launch a new collection of grooming products with Princess Tiana and Prince Naveen from “The Princess and the Frog” on the labels. The collection, which will be released in October, includes a shampoo, conditioner, hair detangler, and bubble bath. Here’s a little insider secret: Celeb makeup artists rely heavily on peach makeup tones to make their clients look glowy and fresh on the red carpet. Take Rachel McAdams, who went monochromatic for “The Time Traveler’s Wife” premiere last night with peach blush, browny-coral shadow and an apricot lip color. It’s nice and light, looks good on lots of different skin tones, and is a great alternative to Pepto-Bismol pinks. Wondering what products to pick up? Well, it so happens we have a few peachy faves … Keep reading »
