Mariah Carey Wants You To Smell Like Candy

When Nick Cannon proposed to his lady, Mariah Carey, he hid her engagement rock inside a Ring Pop lollipop, as a nod to her love for the candy, then replicated his originality in an encrusted lollipop for their anniversary. Now, Mariah’s planning to capitalize off her sweet tooth by launching a line of fragrances with Bazooka Candy Brands. Yes, you read that right. Mariah plans to introduce the world to her candy scents this July, available in three fragrances: Honey, Mine Again, and Ribbon, so everyone can smell just as sweet as her. “I think this line really comes with a fresh approach that is both innovative and accessible to my loyal fan base and beyond, but will bring something new to the market,” she explained, totally justifying her decision to combine the world of beauty and candy. While Mariah’s most likely aiming to sell to a more sophisticated market, this sounds like the perfect present for your 8-year-old daughter, niece, or cousin. [WWD] Keep reading »

How Long Before You Let A Guy See You Without Makeup?

I met a girl the other night who, I kid you not, claims to wake up before her boyfriend to put on makeup before going back to bed and re-waking-up with him. And she said it as though it ain’t no thang. Best part? She’s been with this dude for three months. Umm, what? For me, date three typically consists of biking or rock climbing, sweat and an utter lack of eyeliner, so I was a tad flabbergasted at the thought of keeping up that charade for months. The Frisky staff has weighed in on the matter — most of us falling somewhere between sleepover one and month two — and we want to know about you, too. So tell us: how long do you go before the new guy sees you sans fards? Keep reading »

Beauty Test Drive: NARS Multiple Tint

Don’t let the bright pink color fool you, NARS’ new Multiple Tint makeup stick isn’t trying to leave you looking like a hooker after a rough night. In fact, unless you entirely over-swipe, the pretty burst of pink is so subtle that we dare anyone to even realize that it’s not just your natural glow. Use it on cheeks and lips for a look that says, “It’s summer, so I’m not trying to hard; I’m just super attractive. So suck it.” If you’re anything like us, that sort of look will sound appealing to you. [$38, NARS, Sephora] Keep reading »

Quotable: Is It A Faux Pas To Match Your Makeup To Your Outfit?

“If the shade is in the same family, but a slight variation it should be okay.”

– Jillian Dempsey, a celebrity makeup artist and Patrick Dempsey‘s wife, answered a question that’s been on my mind since Michelle Obama wore blue eyeshadow with a blue gown to the White House State Dinner. The first lady followed Jillian’s rule; her eyeshadow is close to teal, whereas, her gown is a royal blue. To read more of Jillian’s makeup tips from her Avon Twitterview check out #AvonJDBeauty. Burberry Gets Beautiful With New Cosmetics Line

Remember that episode of “Full House” when D.J. begins middle school and starts caking on the makeup and dressing like a slut to fit in with the cool girls? In the end, it was wise Aunt Becky who imparted upon her some of the best womanly advice: “The secret to makeup is to look like you’re not wearing any.” That’s the concept behind Burberry‘s new line of cosmetics. In fact, in describing the collection’s feel it sounds almost as if Christopher Bailey, creative director of the British fashion house, lifted lines from the family sitcom script. He explains: “The Burberry girl wears just a trace of makeup — no crazy eyes or crazy lips … Makeup should enhance women, not just cover up what they perceive as flaws.” The mix of products relies on subdued hues (“inspired by the label’s classic trench coat and by the moody hues of the British climate,” reports the New York Times“) and brings classy packaging to lipsticks, foundations, powders, and more.

Worth checking out if you’re a Burberry fan. Or just feeling nostalgic for “Full House.” [T Magazine Blog] Keep reading »

Beauty Test Drive: Aveda Botanical Kinetics Exfoliant

Two weeks ago, I came to the realization that you haven’t really felt pure luxury until you’ve hired someone to squeeze gunk from your pores. Forget hot stone massages, Egyptian cotton sheets, and private planes. A facial is the height of luxury, especially when you’re enjoying the treatment at a fraction of the normal price. I received a foot soak, back treatment, and a facial at the Aveda Institute in NYC. It was a truly calming, therapeutic, and refreshing experience that I advise you take advantage of if there’s an institute in your area. I felt I was in extremely capable hands even though my aesthetician was a student. She was so professional and thorough that I wanted to take her home with me to de-congest my pores on a regular basis. But that was impossible, so she sold me Aveda’s Botanical Kinetics Exfoliant, instead. Keep reading »
