Eyelash Growth Product Latisse Faces Backlash

For some, Latisse has proven to be a miracle beauty product as the formula promises to grow full, long, thick eyelashes. Though Latisse was FDA approved, take heed: Cityfile is reporting that the FDA has now released an advisory letter regarding Latisse, the details of which are downright scary … Keep reading »

Eau de Jizz? French Perfume Company’s Got Some Wack Scents

The French have some weird ideas when it comes to personal odors. To wit, what I like to call the “French Shower,” is where you don’t bathe for three days and douse yourself with deodorant and perfume. Which is why it doesn’t surprise me that French perfume company, L’Etat Libre d’Orange, produces a range of bizarre scents. Keep reading »

Beauty Alert Stickers: When Should You Toss Old Cosmetics Anyway?

Part of the fun of makeup is getting to buy new products to add to your collection, and feeling satisfaction in having an array of choices and colors to use. If you’re like me, this means you like to buy pretty eyeshadows that you rarely use but keep around “just in case” you’re in the mood to do that ice blue liner thing you saw in last month’s Elle. Hello arsenal of teeny compacts, samples, and lip glosses for the masses! But still, I don’t like to part with any of these. I tend to keep them around.

If you’re the type who hordes makeup as well, you probably don’t pay too much attention to throwing out your products when you’re supposed to. Or, perhaps you don’t even consider that keeping things around for years is harmful, in which case you may want to check out these Beauty Alert stickers, which will remind you when to chuck out-of-date items (or just force you to do some cosmetic spring cleaning). And here’s why it’s important … Keep reading »

Tongue Patch Makes Eating So Horrific You Get Mad Skinny

Just can’t stop yourself from eating the three solid meals a day that are totally making you F-A-T? Can’t afford costly stomach stapling and/or Courtney Love‘s favorite detox spa? Have we got a solution for you! California cosmetic surgeon Dr. Nikolas Chugay (interesting name) has developed a wildly innovative weight loss tool. He’ll sew a mesh patch over your tongue, which makes eating food so excruciatingly painful that patients are forced to stick to a liquid diet. Ten whole patients have been crazy desperate brave enough to try it and some lost “as much as 20 pounds” a month after the surgery. Kinda makes exercise and salads sound appealing, no? For patients who can’t make it out to see Dr. Chugay, we’ve got another solution: Simply imagining there is a mesh patch on your tongue is a total appetite killer! [Chicago Tribune] Keep reading »

Kate Moss Wore No Makeup In The ’90s Because Of The Recession?

Makeup artist Kay Montano prepared Kate Moss for for an iconic Calvin Klein perfume ad shoot in the late ’90s. According to Kay, there wasn’t any makeup involved in the making of the ads because her bosses urged her to be frugal due to the recession at the time:

“Yes, the recession came and after that fashion and beauty became rather more pared down. One of my first jobs after moving to New York was to make up Kate Moss for the Calvin Klein Obsession fragrance campaign and I just used moisturizer. She looked absolutely perfect.”

Here’s why this is confusing. Keep reading »

Is This The Best Eye Cream, Um, In The World?

The AllureBest of Beauty” awards are no joke. As an Allure alum, I can personally attest to the fact that literally hundreds of products are tested by the beauty experts on staff in order to select the most high-performance offerings available on the market, and their standards are stringent. That’s why I was amazed to see that one eye cream, Relastin Eye Silk, was recently chosen as the best for the third year in a row. Have their editors simply gotten lazy? I doubt it. Keep reading »

Beauty Test Drive: La Mer The Radiant Concealer

Cult skin company La Mer has a new-ish concealer and you’d better believe we were down to take it for a spin. In fact, some of us around here are real concealer devotees because, well, if your skin doesn’t look good, that fire engine red lipstick isn’t necessarily going to distract anyone. Plus, it’s always fun to wear expertly applied concealer and deny you’re wearing any makeup at all, right? At $65, The Radiant Concealer SPF 25 is not for the faint of wallet. On the other hand, it’s much cheaper than a jar of Creme de la Mer and contains some pretty fancy ingredients like tourmaline and malachite to reflect light and an Asian mushroom called Viapure Poria that instantly calms your skin. The cream-to-powder texture is heavenly, of course, and we like that it contains a little brush to fill in even the tiniest of lines. If you’re a concealer junkie and spend all of your beauty savings on making your skin look dewier than a milkmaid’s then you may just wanna check it out. Keep reading »

How To Get Elisabeth Moss’s Rosy Glow At The Emmys

Peggy Olson has really stepped up her look on the current season of “Mad Men,” but she still isn’t quite as lovely as Elisabeth Moss is when she’s out of character. The actress looked quite nice on the red carpet last night with her simple makeup that eschewed the Hollywood trend to heap on the bronzer. Find out how to get her look after the jump! The Easy Way To Relax An Uptight Bun

This past weekend I was a bridesmaid in a good friend’s wedding and, as is seemingly customary these days, the bridesmaids had their hair did for the walk down the aisle as well as for the endless photo sessions. I decided, Hey, it’s a wind tunnel out there; do I really want to fight with my hair all day/night? Why don’t I go for an updo? (And it’s not like I don’t spend my days talking about updos ad nauseum on The Frisky anyway—so it was time to start really living what I’ve been preaching!) As is always my problem, I had trouble explaining exactly what I wanted. I did manage to communicate that I wanted a bun but not a super-tight one and I wanted it to look like I did it myself. Basically, I wanted nothing to do with one of those intense, huge, tight, donut-shaped Jennifer Lopez hairdos. One of the other bridesmaids so perfectly described the size I wanted: “Less Cinnabon, more Dunkin Donuts.” Great. And as Jenn, my stylist, was soaking in all my wants/needs/crazy talk, she passed on one amazing nugget of a hair trick … Keep reading »
