Why You Can’t Find A Good Man

When I was single, the reason I couldn’t find a good man was my habit of “wishful hoping.” I am long past that now, but as a coach I find “wishful hoping” is probably one of the key factors that make finding your true love take so long.

“Wishful hoping” is very similar to being in a state of longing. You may understand it better if I share with you this definition of longing by Gay Hendricks:

So many of my clients ask me whether they should date more than one man at a time. As their search for love heats up, suddenly there are a few guys who are interested and they don’t know how to handle it. The other scenario is that they fall in love too quickly with one guy and end up heartbroken time after time. Have either of these situations happened to you?

When I was looking for love, I often dated up to three guys simultaneously. I wasn’t trying to hit some number in the Guinness Book of World Records. Rather, my goal was simple: to find a guy I could date more than three times, hoping this would lead to a relationship.

Frequently, men would drop out after one, two or three dates. Since there was no way to know who would stick around, I dated as many guys as I was interested in at the same time. That’s why I’m an advocate for “volume dating.” I dated 30 men in 15 months in order to eventually meet my husband. Read more …

inding a balance between life at the office and life at home is one of the great challenges of adulthood; often, blurring the lines by devoting more time to one more than the other can cause life-changing shifts, and more often than not those shifts affect our personal relationships rather than our work ethic.

Last year, we did a “Best And Worst Careers For Love” survey which highlighted, among other things, that the five worst careers when it comes to finding love are: journalism (ha), business ownership, healthcare, real estate and law. This isn’t terribly surprising given the long hours of these careers, and how long it takes to ascend to the top in all of them.

But according to a new survey from eHarmony, maybe if these work addicts went for the opposite type of profession when it came to scoping out a potential love interest, they’d be happier. In honor of Labor Day, the online dating site looked at communication trends between their users to find out how they were influenced by people’s careers. It turns out that what you do for a living has a big influence on who you hit up online in your off-hours. Here are just a few of the tidbits they found:

This quote is stunningly perfect. I wish I had this in my 20s, although I might not have completely understood this as I do now. It truly sums up how many of us have felt inrelationships when we have put the other person first over and over again and coming in maybe tenth with them in their lives. I don’t think I need to elaborate too much on this statement, other than please remember to read this as many times as necessary when you find yourself here.
