A couple years ago I was feeling lost. I had graduated college, had some money saved up, and I wanted to try something new. I’d been writing a humorous fashion blog for awhile and I’d been toying with the idea of taking the leap from writing funny things to performing funny things. Tina Fey has always been a huge inspiration for me and I remember reading an interview about how improv had changed her life and thinking, Hey, maybe improv would change my life too. I looked up Tina Fey’s bio on Wikipedia and found out she studied improv at The Second City, an acting school and theater in Chicago where many “Saturday Night Live” alums got their start. So I signed up a for a week-long immersion improv class and I bought a plane ticket to Chicago. Keep reading »
Here’s a picture of the witness table at the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, which is discussing access to contraception and comprehensive healthcare. Let’s play a quick game of “Count the uteruses,” shall we? Oh, right, there are none. At least there’s a second panel coming up, which will include … wait for it … four more men. Said Rep. Carolyn Maloney before walking out of the hearing in protest: “I look at this panel, and I don’t see one single individual representing the tens of millions of women across the country who want and need insurance coverage for basic preventative health care services, including family planning. Where are the women?”
Spring is a time of renewal. The days get longer and warmer and the flowers bloom and slowly but surely we start pulling our shorts and mini skirts out of the back of the closet. Most people celebrated Valentine’s Day with flowers and chocolate, but one Portland couple went a slightly spicier route: naked bondage role play in a grocery store parking lot. And it ended the way all the best dates usually do: with a nine car police chase and a pair of arrests for disorderly conduct. Keep reading »

When I saw photos of Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter holding hands and taking what seemed like a romantic stroll together, I actually squealed with glee. Like, out loud, alone, in my living room. I just love these two crazy kids together and was so bummed when they got a divorce. Now it seems reconciliation might be on the horizon (they watched the sunset on the beach, you guys), and I’m so excited. Here are six reasons why… Keep reading »
When approximately 70 percent of the Man Panelists cited “The Fifth Element” in our recent Valentine’s Day Man Panel, Amelia asked me what the deal was. “I have never even seen that movie,” she said, “but it must be a dude requirement.” Growing up with three brothers, I knew that it is in fact a dude requirement, and this got me thinking about other movies men obsess about. I surveyed my guy friends to flesh out a top 10 list and asked them to explain the appeal of each film. And now, without further ado, here’s our field guide to guy movies…
Dear Guy Who Stole $25,000 Worth Of Tide Detergent,
OK, you’ve got my attention. Let’s talk. You went to the store and walked out with a pilfered cartload of Tide detergent every day for a month, eventually amassing enough laundry soap to wash more than 82,500 loads of laundry. The cops are baffled, but it makes perfect sense to me: you’re not addicted to shoplifting; you’re addicted to the fresh smell and satisfying feel of freshly washed linens. I’ve got a lot of laundry to do. You’ve got a lot of detergent. Are you thinking what I’m thinking? [ Daily Mail UK]
