What Are Your Shopping Dealbreakers?

We talk a lot about dating dealbreakers here at the Frisky — things like neckbeards and global warming denial that can instantly end a date or even a relationship. But what about shopping dealbreakers? Example: for me, a tag that says “hand wash only” is the equivalent of a guy who wears spotless white sneakers. No matter how much I’m attracted to it or how strong it looks, I know it is actually fragile and high maintenance and things will never work out between us. My friend Rachel will walk away from even the most beautiful dress if it contains one percent polyester. My brother won’t buy clothes that are made in China. Is there anything that would cause you to put an otherwise awesome piece of clothing back on the rack? Keep reading »

Unlikely Style Inspiration: Rachel McAdams In “Midnight In Paris”

It’s been awhile since I’ve hated a movie character as much as I hated Rachel McAdam’s character Inez in “Midnight in Paris.” In fact, I spent most of the movie hoping for a plot twist that involved her getting hit by a truck. She’s spoiled, entitled, condescending, and has no sense of magic. One thing she does have, however, is a pretty amazing sense of style. Her belted shirtdresses, platform sandals, and aviator sunglasses were a nice distraction from her awful personality. Read on for a wallet-friendly version of Inez’s signature outfit… Keep reading »

Double Rainbow On The Runway

This colorful ensemble from Christopher Kane’s 2012 resort collection is a wearable rainbow. If you count the little triangle clutch separately, that’s two wearable rainbows. Like, a double rainbow. I think the double rainbow guy said it best: “Oh my god! Whoooaaaa! That’s so intense! Whooooaaaa, man! Yeeeeeaaaaahhhh!” Now I need to go have a good cry. Keep reading »

Love ‘Em Or Leave ‘Em: Fake Eyelashes

This summer, I’ve been committed to attending as many frivolous pop concerts as possible and dressing accordingly, which means sequins, disastrously high heels, and my recently discovered favorite accessory: fake eyelashes. I’d actually never tried them before the Britney Spears concert (I know, I know) a few weeks ago. My friend Molly and I bought a couple pairs, and from the moment they were attached to my eyelids, even though they were crooked and drenched in excess glue (it was our first time), I felt sultry and glamorous. In talking to my friends, I’ve noticed that about half of them share my love for fake lashes, and the other half thinks they’re disgusting. So I’m wondering: which camp do you fall into? 5 Style Lessons I Learned At The Backstreet Boys Concert Last Friday

Backstreet Boys photo

Last Friday, my childhood BFF Brittany and I reunited to take a road trip to the New Kids On The Block/Backstreet Boys concert in a city 150 miles north of ours. I say “road trip” but it was more of a religious pilgrimage to worship at the altar of AJ McLean’s facial hair (if you’re unversed in the BSB gospel, AJ is the bad boy of the group, and Brittany and I have been trying to get him to marry us since 1997). The concert was incredible, obviously, complete with dazzling pyrotechnics, dreamy harmonies, and Jordan Knight straining so hard to hit his high notes that I genuinely feared for his well-being. Over the course of this grand adventure, I learned a few lessons about style that will stick with me forever… Keep reading »
