"Tie the knot... so one day we can too!"

Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who stars as the lovable, tightly wound Mitchell in “Modern Family,” has a lot of big news to share. Not only is he newly engaged to his partner Justin Mikita, the couple is launching a foundation called “Tie The Knot,” which will advocate for a “more stylish and equal America” through the sale of limited edition bow ties. “We’ve teamed up with The Tie Bar to create a series of bow ties that are inspired by art and fashion, things that we love,” Ferguson explains. “All the proceeds will go to various organizations who are in the trenches fighting for the civil rights of gay and lesbian Americans every day.” The accessories will be available in November, but even if you’re not in the market for a new bow tie, I’d encourage you to watch this video, which is a touching and funny appeal for marriage equality, featuring two people who are very obviously in love and want nothing more than to make it official. The other day I needed to put my hair up before a shower, so I groggily reached into the little jar of bobby pins on my bathroom counter, felt around a bit, and  realized it was empty. Totally empty. Despite the fact that I’d just bought one of those massive value buckets of bobby pins, like, two weeks ago. I checked all the usual places–bedside table, purse pockets, under the sink–and sure enough, no bobby pins. Seriously, where have all the cowboys bobby pins gone? Where does every single bobby pin I’ve ever owned disappear to? Here are my theories… Keep reading »

Seriously, you have GOT to hear this.

When someone dares to karaoke a Whitney Houston song, the end result usually falls somewhere between “tragic” and “ear-splitting.” So when this random girl stepped up to the karaoke microphone in the electronics department of a Singapore grocery store and cued up “I Will Always Love You,” nobody paid much attention. But when she started singing? Well, hit play to see for yourself (skip to 3:20 for that famous “And IIIIIIIIII” moment). Now someone get this girl a record deal and a show in a venue that doesn’t have a toilet paper aisle! [YouTube]

I’m not sure if it’s God or Anna Wintour or the Pantone people who come up with the trendy color names every season, but this fall the fashion world is going crazy for “oxblood,” a deep burgundy that we can only assume  is the same hue as, well, ox blood. Beautiful color, totally gross name, right? But I guess it could be worse. Here are 10 alternative names for oxblood that I’m very glad I won’t be seeing in Vogue anytime soon… Keep reading »

As I’ve mentioned before, there are very few moments in my life where I’m not wondering, Where the hell am I? So it was with great interest that I read about a pair of “No Place Like Home” GPS shoes that can guide you to any destination with a Dorothy-esque click of your heels. Creator Dominic Wilcox explains how the magical footwear work:

“After uploading your required destination to the shoes via a piece of custom-made mapping software and a USB cable, the GPS, which is embedded in the heel, is activated by a heel click. It then communicates to the wearer via a ring of LED lights to point in the required direction. The shoe with the GPS wirelessly communicates with the right shoe that has a progress bar of lights to show how close you are to the destination.”

Right now the shoes are just a prototype, but I need them to become a reality, like, now. In the meantime, I might have to DIY my own by duct taping my smart phone to the toe of my red sequin pumps. “There’s no place like home, there’s no place like home…” [Dominic Wilcox]

Hair Dos: 5 Easy Hair Updates For Fall

Whenever the seasons change I get the urge to change my hair, and my yearnings are always strongest in the fall. Maybe it’s the stack of thick fashion magazines bursting with hair inspiration, the new clothes I’m adding to my wardrobe, or the fact that it’s finally cool enough to bring my hairdryer out of timeout and retire the sweaty top knots of summer. Just in case you’re also in need of a change, here are five super easy ways to update your hair this fall…

Fall Into A Slouchy Cardigan In A Perky Color

This cardigan combines the best thing about fall fashion (slouchy cardigans!) with the best thing about summer fashion (bright colors!), which makes it the perfect transition piece to bridge the seasons. I’d love to throw it on over jersey dresses or dark denim skinny jeans and flats–pretty sure I’d find a way to wear this baby pretty much every day. [$90, J.Crew]
