Most yoga classes start out with a request to turn off or silence your cellphones, and a tacit understanding that if you do pull out your wireless device during class, you’re going to get some disapproving looks from the teacher and your classmates. As was the case during a lunchtime yoga class at Facebook headquarters, when a female employee started typing on her phone during a half moon pose. The teacher, Alice Van Ness, shot her a stern glance. Two weeks later, Van Ness was fired from her job… Keep reading »

We love Amy Poehler’s website Smart Girls At The Party, which aims to inspire and empower teen girls, so we’re super excited for the launch of Smart Girls’ new series, “Ask Amy.” In the series, Amy answers reader emails while lounging on the bed like the cool aunt we always wished we had. The first question comes from a 14-year-old who wants to know how to feel pretty when her dad won’t let her wear makeup. Watch the video to hear Amy’s thoughtful answer! [YouTube]
My friend Aileen and I popped into Sephora a couple weeks ago so I could grab a new face powder, and of course we ended up staying for two hours and testing every single product and fragrance in the store. When our epic cosmetic journey brought us to the NARS section, I spotted their new blush, modestly titled, “Super Orgasm,” and laughed. Their “Orgasm” has been hugely popular for years thanks to the claim that it mimics the natural flush of a woman’s cheeks post-orgasm. “What the hell is a Super Orgasm?” I asked as I swiped some on my cheek. Then I looked in the mirror, stopped asking questions, and spent 30 bucks on blush (which I have totally never done before). Here’s why…. Keep reading »

Dolphins are like humans in a lot of ways: they have sex for pleasure, mingle with different social groups, and enjoy looking at themselves in the mirror. They also spend a lot of time talking to each other in whistles, clicks, and pulses (coincidentally, this is how many of us communicate with our best friends). So here’s the million dollar question: will we ever be able to crack the dolphin language code? Scientists are hard at work studying dolphin vocalizations, a task which is as challenging as it is fascinating. George Dvorsky over at i09 sums up what they’ve learned so far… Keep reading »

I’m not a big fan of summer camp. Probably because the one time I went to summer camp every other camper in my cabin got violently ill, I had to deflect projectile vomit with my sleeping bag, the counselors vaguely accused me of poisoning everyone, and–unrelated but just as tragic–my favorite soccer shorts got swept down the river, never to be seen again. Whether your camp memories are positive, negative, or nonexistent, it’s easy to appreciate the laid back style of this summer tradition. Get the camp-y look for yourself, after the jump!
