5 Tips For Setting Healthy Boundaries At Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving can be one beautiful holiday, but depending on your situation, it can also be a lot of condensed family-filled time. Since your family is obviously interested in your life and what you’ve been up to, lots of questions are bound to pop up. Some will be easy to answer, but others you may not be comfortable with. In order to make your Thanksgiving as smooth and painless as possible, read through these five easy tips to help you set healthy boundaries before you set the table.

10 Things Obama Supporters Love About Tuesday’s Election

1. Our social media kicked your Super Pac’s ass. Sheldon Adelson, called by The New York Times, “the biggest single donor in political history” backed eight conservative Republican candidates through Super Pacs. None of them won. People have been wondering when America would have its social media driven “Arab Spring”? This was it.

2. Karl Rove’s $300 million extra super, ugly, horrible super bad day. Karl Rove has been a boil on the ass of the American political landscape since he first ushered George W. Bush into the White House in 2000. His smug Fox News-driven run of seemingly invincible political gutter dredging has finally come to an end. Artistic Twists On Disney Princesses (And Other Heroines)

Merida, Disney Pixar’s first leading lady, was a popular costume for women this Halloween, according to Google. Between Merida, Kate Middleton, and the recent Snow White movies, we’ve had princesses on the brain this year. While our adult selves may cringe at princess culture and the outdated stereotypes that come along with it, there’s just something special about the Disney princesses we grew up with like Cinderella, Belle, Snow White, Aurora, and Ariel. And they aren’t all damsels in distress; the newer crop of the crowned ladies (including Princess Sofia the First and Brave’s Princess Merida) have attempted to be better role models for little girls.

But whether these Disney princesses — or, for the purists, animated heroines — are classics or newbies, they’ve inspired many creative artists who’ve transformed them into thought-provoking modern art. So while we wait for The Real Housewives of Disney to become an actual show, satiate your obsession with some of our favorite artistic renditions of Disney princesses! Read more…

Strippers In Pop Culture

After a New York nightclub tried to justify its dancers getting the same “artistic” tax exemptions as ballerinas, New York’s highest court ruled this week that strip clubs will have to pay their state sales taxes (guess the lawmakers don’t see the artistry in stripping). This means the club’s cover charge and lap dances will be taxed. While New York isn’t giving a break to the pole-twirling ladies, Hollywood just can’t get enough of them! Olivia Wilde plays a sharp-tongued stripper who tries her hand at butter carving in the film “Butter,” Vanessa Hudgens will slip into lucite heels for her role as a stripper who escapes a serial killer in next month’s thriller “The Frozen Ground,” and Salma Hayek plays an exotic dancer for the third time in the recent French film “Americano.” Popular culture has a history of fascination with strippers, from tell-all books to R&B songs. So let’s take a look back at some of the most notable stripper moments in pop culture! Read more…
