New Bridget Jones Novel Announced

Classic chick-lit fans mark your diaries for November — that’s when the now-official third installment of the Bridget Jones novels will be released. Author Helen Fielding introduced the world to the single 30-something back in 1996 with Bridget Jones’s Diary and followed up the hit book loosely based on Pride and Prejudice with a 1999 sequel, Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, both of which were turned into hit films staring Renée Zellweger, Hugh Grant, and Colin Firth. Now almost 15 years later, fans can catch up with Bridget. She is apparently up to new things, according to the author, who says, “My life has moved on and Bridget’s will move on, too.” Read more…

Merida, Disney Pixar’s first leading lady, was a popular costume for women this Halloween, according to Google. Between Merida, Kate Middleton, and the recent Snow White movies, we’ve had princesses on the brain this year. While our adult selves may cringe at princess culture and the outdated stereotypes that come along with it, there’s just something special about the Disney princesses we grew up with like Cinderella, Belle, Snow White, Aurora, and Ariel. And they aren’t all damsels in distress; the newer crop of the crowned ladies (including Princess Sofia the First and Brave’s Princess Merida) have attempted to be better role models for little girls.

There are just two more weeks left until the presidential election will decide if Barack Obama will stay in the Oval Office for another four years or Mitt Romney will become our country’s next commander-in-chief. With the final presidential debate tonight and early voting starting in some states, now’s the time to make sure you’re registered to vote— especially if you live in California, since today’s the last day to register!

Thanks to the women’s suffrage movement in the 19th and early 20th centuries, Congress passed the 19th amendment in 1919, giving American women the right to vote in our country. Our female ancestors fought hard for our right to have our voices heard, so let’s make ‘em proud. With women’s health care and abortion rights being significant issues this election season, casting our ballots on Nov. 6 (or in some cases, earlier) is especially important. Read more …
