New Jersey Governor Chris Christie Issues Ban On Ex-Gay Therapy

Chris Christie may not have done much bill-signing on Friday, but the same can’t be said for today. The AP reports that the governor is set to sign a bill that will prevent licensed therapists from trying to turn gay teens straight. New Jersey will join California as the second state to outlaw “gay conversion therapy.” Christie has already signed a note that will accompany the bill; in it, he cites his own belief that people are born gay and that homosexuality is not a sin. Read more on Newser…

A New Study Says “Hookup Culture” Is A Myth

You know the whole hookup culture of casual sex that’s so prevalent on college campuses? Turns out, it’s not so prevalent. Or at least, no more prevalent than in an earlier generation, a new study suggests. The key stat: About one-third of college students have had more than one sexual partner in the last year—the same as those surveyed between 1988 and 1996, reports “Time.” “College students today are not having more sexual partners [after] age 18, more sexual partners over the last year, or more sex than their parents,” says a sociology professor at the University of Oregon that led the study. Gupta has spent a lot of time researching pot for his new documentary “Weed,” and has arrived at a conclusion: “We have been terribly and systematically misled for nearly 70 years in the United States, and I apologize for my own role in that.” Read more at Newser…

President Obama Once Again Rags On Kanye

It’s the day of bros bashing bros: President Obama has had a somewhat tortured relationship with Kanye West, at least as reported in the media. He memorably called the rapper a “jackass” in 2009, then later explained that he “liked” the “smart” and “talented” Kanye … though adding “he is a jackass.” Now Kanye’s name has popped up once again, in a Kindle Singles Interview about “the economy and the increasing need for government programs that [Obama] believes can make a difference.” Wait, wha? Yes. Read more at Newser…

Pope Francis: Who Am I To Judge Gays?

Pope Francis: Who Am I to Judge Gays?

Pope Francis continues to make news by making waves: for assuring the world that atheists can be good people, for blessing leather-clad Harley riders, and, now, for softening the church’s position on gay priests. With the ink barely dry on yet another big news moment (he racked up the No. 2 most-attended papal address on record yesterday), Pope Francis boarded the papal plane and gave his first news conference during his overnight flight back to the Vatican. This is the line getting a good bit of attention: “Who am I to judge a gay person of goodwill who seeks the Lord? You can’t marginalize these people.” Read more on Newser…
