Lindsay Lohan Back In Rehab

It’s official: Lindsay Lohan is back in rehab. Her lawyer says she’s checked in, but, because apparently nothing can be simple in Lohan’s life, it’s not clear the judge will actually accept the placement. Prosecutors need to sign off on the facility and didn’t have time to investigate it and do so, so the judge gave them until next Friday to make a decision. Until then, the judge said, Lohan should stay at the facility, the AP reports. Oh, and this could be a problem: The facility’s license has been revoked, TMZ reports. Read more on Newser…

3 Students Arrested In Boston Bombing

Federal authorities arrested three college students today in connection with the Boston Marathon bombings, the Boston Globe reports. The BPD’s official Twitter account identified them as “suspects,” and added that there was no public threat. All will reportedly be charged with making false statements to investigators; two of them, identified by CBS Boston as Azamat Tazhayakov and Dias Kadyrbayev, will also be charged with conspiracy to obstruct justice. Read more on Newser…

AP Twitter Feed Hacked, Dow Plunges

Hackers got their hands on AP’s Twitter feed today and briefly sent blood pressures racing with an afternoon tweet that President Obama had been injured in a pair of White House explosions, reports the Huffington Post. The real AP tweeted minutes later that it was a hoax and suspended the account. Incredibly, the Dow had been up 130 points before the tweet and lost all of it within a minute, reports the Wall Street JournalRead more on Newser…

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev has regained consciousness and has been giving investigators written answers to questions, law enforcement sources tell ABC, though it’s unclear if he’s actually saying anything useful yet. Sources tell Fox News that he will not be formally charged today. The Boston bombing suspect is listed as in serious but stable condition at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, with neck and throat injuries that prevent him from talking. The shot that injured his throat was fired at close range, sources tell Newsday, and that, combined with the bullet’s apparent trajectory, leads investigators to believe that the 19-year-old shot himself in a failed suicide attempt after police discovered his hiding place. Read more on Newser…

“Furious” Gabrielle Giffords Says Senate Shamed Itself

It was “political fear” and “cold calculations” that drove a Senate minority to block a gun background-check measure yesterday. But “that fear must be nothing compared to the fear the first graders in Sandy Hook Elementary School felt as their lives ended in a hail of bullets,” writes Gabrielle Giffords in a blistering New York Times op-ed. Some of those senators have met with Newtown victims, “have looked into my eyes” as Giffords discussed her own shooting. Yet, despite polls showing overwhelming support for the measure, “then they looked over their shoulder at the powerful, shadowy gun lobby—and brought shame on themselves by choosing to do nothing.” Read more on Newser…

Senate Rejects Tougher Background Checks

As predicted, the Senate today rejected a bipartisan effort to expand federal background checks on gun purchasers. The proposal would have required checks for all transactions at gun shows and online. The 54-46 vote was a blow to the drive to curb firearms sparked by December’s massacre of children and staff in Newtown. The roll call was also a victory for the National Rifle Association, which opposed the plan as an ineffective infringement on gun rights. Read more on Newser…
