American student Gabrielle Turnquest was recently called to the Bar of England and Wales after passing her Bar exams. This is a great achievement for anyone, but Turnquest happens to be a little more impressive than the average person to pass the Bar exams.  She just happens to be 18 years old, making her the youngest person to be called to the Bar of England and Wales in its 600-year existence. Gay Grooms On Wedding Cake

Since Proposition 8 was struck down in the Supreme Court, same-sex marriage is once again legal in California. Unfortunately, just because something is legal doesn’t mean that people are suddenly more accepting and open-minded about it.

Ken Bencomo of Rancho Cucamonga taught at St. Lucy’s Priory, an all-girls Catholic school in Glendora, California, and was head of the English department. Bencomo is gay and for 10 of the 17 years he has worked at St. Lucy’s, school officials knew his sexual orientation and had even met his partner. Yet after all this time, Bencomo was fired from his position just days after he married his partner, Christopher Persky, according to The San Bernadino Sun. According to USA Today, the school justified their decision, saying that gay marriage goes against the teachings of the Catholic Church. Officials apparently did not have a problem with Bencomo being gay, they just had a problem with him getting married to the person that he loves. Social Wave

The Sol Wave House Hotel in Majorca, Spain, claims to be the first-ever Twitter-themed hotel. First of all, that statement implies that there will be more Twitter-themed hotels to come, which I find confusing, but secondly, I guess some people feel more passionately about Twitter than I do. The hotel is, naturally, focused around social interaction, meeting new people, and hashtags.

Here are five important facts you can use to decide whether or not this real-life Twitter is for you. Keep reading »

When someone goes on a bad date it usually has something to do with awkward silences, gross food, a complete lack of connection, or as the case usually is with me, embarrassing occurrences. Some dates are even bad enough to make the news, but generally, first dates don’t end in a fall from a 17th-story balcony. Tragically, that’s how one otherwise promising first date came to a close Thursday night, reports The New York Times.

Jennifer Rosoff had returned to her Manhattan apartment with her date, Stephen Close, and the two decided to go out on the balcony to have a cigarette. According to the New York Post, Ms. Rosoff lifted herself up onto the railing of the balcony to chat with her date. Close thought that the balcony looked unstable and suggested that she get down, but Rosoff assured him that this was something she had done many times before. Moments later, however, Close heard two loud pops from the balcony and Rosoff was gone. Keep reading »

A small village in Florida was created in the 1960s in the middle of sugar cane fields to house the people who worked there. Some of these sugar cane workers still live there, but these days half of the residents of this “Miracle Village” are registered sex offenders. Since 2009, Miracle Village has been home to about 100 sex offenders who have nowhere else to go. Florida, like many states, has a law that forbids sex offenders from living within 1,000 feet of anywhere children congregate, such as schools, parks, bus stops, and day care centers.

For many, this makes it nearly impossible to find somewhere to live. Miracle Village’s closest neighbor, however, is about three miles away through fields of sugar cane. Keep reading »

Lululemon Athletica

Although Abercrombie & Fitch has been hit hard with criticism for not carrying larger sizes in stores, they’re far from the only company ignoring the plus-size customer base. We already knew anything over size 10 is considered “plus size” at Forever 21. Now, according to Huffington Post, Lululemon Athletica, a Canadian clothing company that focuses on yoga and running attire, also is biased against customers who require larger sizes.

As company that sells athletic gear, Lululemon wants to portray an image of health and wellness. How healthy a person is, however, is not to be confused with how skinny a person is. This is where Lululemon goes wrong.
