New thing to be afraid of: exploding breast implants! The trauma is not unheard of, but the particular way in which one Beijing woman’s implants combusted just might be. After lying on her stomach for four hours playing a game called Dragon Summon on her phone, the woman experienced severe pain in her chest and went to the hospital. There she found out an implant had ruptured. This is very dangerous because the fluid can drain out into her body.
The implants were obviously of pretty questionable quality if they could not withstand the mere pressure of the woman’s body weight to which they were attached. Unfortunately, this is not the first time and it won’t be the last time that a person is injured from a leaking or ruptured implant. Here’s what we know:

Grammy-winning singer Adele has understandably chosen to keep her baby boy pretty well concealed. This is actually one of the first times we’ve gotten a glimpse of the eight-month-old. Though she hasn’t yet confirmed the little goober’s name, several sources have said that Adele and her boyfriend Simon Konecki named him Angelo. Adele was even spotted wearing a necklace bearing the name. Whatever they call him, it’s clear Adele and Simon have one adorable baby boy on their hands! [Huffington Post] [Photo: Splash News]
The striking down of the Defense of Marriage Act is an enormous victory for same-sex marriage. Alas, there are always several assholes out there to remind us that ignorance and homophobia are still alive and well. On Wednesday, openly gay Pennsylvania Rep. Brian Sims, a Democrat from Philadelphia, was not permitted to speak about DOMA on the floor of the Pennsylvania House. Why? Because bigots wouldn’t let him. A procedural maneuver in the PA legislature requires just one legislator to shut down such impromptu remarks and Republican Rep. Daryl Metcalfe announced:
“I did not believe that as a member of that body that I should allow someone to make comments such as he was preparing to make that ultimately were just open rebellion against what the word of God has said, what God has said, and just open rebellion against God’s law,”
Yes, you read that correctly. Sims was not allowed to speak in a government building because he maybe was going to say something in violation of “God’s law.” Welcome to America! We have separation of church and state here, people. Later, Rep. Metcalfe told the AP, “For me to allow him to say things that I believe are open rebellion against God are for me to participate in his open rebellion. There’s no free speech on the floor.” Keep reading »
Every now and then the unthinkable happens and a baby is born to a mother that didn’t even know she was pregnant. Such stories are often met with skepticism because in most cases, pregnancy is a incredibly obvious condition. The big bellies. The lack of a period. The cravings for pickles and tiramisu. In a few instances, however, mothers really seem to not know they are pregnant until that baby was coming down the vaginal canal. Here are some of the strangest cases. Serena Williams is really not doing a great job recovering from the victim-blaming comments about the Steubenville rape that she made during an interview with Rolling Stone. Her first apology was incredibly lame, mostly because she referred to it as “what I supposedly said,” insinuating that the reporter had misinterpreted her words that were not actually meant for the article.
“What happened in Steubenville was a real shock for me. I was deeply saddened. For someone to be raped, and at only sixteen, is such a horrible tragedy! For both families involved – that of the rape victim and of the accused. I am currently reaching out to the girl’s family to let her know that I am deeply sorry for what was written in the Rolling Stone article. What was written – what I supposedly said – is insensitive and hurtful, and I by no means would say or insinuate that she was at all to blame.”
Williams has since come out with a slightly more convincing apology, but seems more annoyed that what she said was published instead of the fact she said it. The tennis star said she reached out to the Steubenville rape victim and her mother and ”we came to a wonderful understanding, and we’re constantly in contact.” Regarding her comments, Williams said: Keep reading »
