It’s World AIDS Day, and millions of people are doing their part to raise awareness and funds for the fight against AIDS and HIV. This epidemic continues to ravage the world with an estimated 1.8 million deaths and 16.6 million orphaned children caused by the disease in 2009 alone. Currently, an estimated 33.3 million people are living with HIV or AIDS. Thanks to the efforts of activists, doctors, governments, and everyday citizens, these numbers have continually declined over the past decade. But there is still much we don’t know about AIDS and HIV. [AVERT]

This Thanksgiving, I went home to Michigan and hung out with my family, ate lots of food, and rolled around on the floor thinking about how I ate too much. I imagine your holiday was some close variation of this, maybe with a crazy uncle thrown in. Well, apparently we are doing Turkey Day wrong, because all the celebs spent their holiday on the beaches of beautiful places without a turkey in sight. Those stars who keep things local spent their down time working on getting comfy in their new relationships—Taylor and Jake included. You should probably look over this Cheat Sheet just so you can start planning your 2011 famous person Thanksgiving now. I imagine it takes a while to get a private jet and a celebrity squeeze. Macaulay Culkin has been off the grid for awhile now, popping up looking sort of frail, which some gossip mongers attributed to a possible heroin addiction, but maybe Macaulay has just been too focused on his art to eat? And by art, I mean the paintings he’s apparently been working on with the two friends in his “collective” 3M. They just debuted their first pieces, among them this portrait of a dog playing poker (top), and another featuring He-Man painting the guys from “Seinfeld” (bottom). That one is my favorite. Also, I would much rather believe that Mac has just been devoted to painting, not shooting up, you know? [Buzzfeed]
Macaulay isn’t the only famous person who has tried his hand at a different creative medium. Plenty of celebs have picked up the palette. Click through to see more celebs who fancy themselves artists.
So, as you might have guessed, the tabloids are going cuckoo bananas over that fact that Prince William and Kate Middleton are engaged and have set a date for the royal wedding. Since the big day isn’t until April, that gives the gossip mags months to speculate about the details. And from what I can tell, they are going to use every single day of it. Somehow, I managed to sift through all the Princess Diana comparisons and engagement ring talk to find some other celebrity “news.” But let’s just say you should plan to be in wedding mode for the next couple of months. It’s a movie plot unfortunately come to life. Earlier this week, movie publicist Ronni Chasen—who represented big-time flicks like “Alice In Wonderland” and “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps”—was shot while driving her car home from the “Burlesque” premiere after-party. Police were originally at a loss to why someone would fire five shots into Chasen’s vehicle and then drive away, leaving her body to be found the next morning. Officials were considering everything from a car jacking to road rage. Now, after examining the crime scene and video footage from the section of Sunset Boulevard where Chasen was killed, police believe that someone planned the murder. They think that a car was ordered to follow Chasen, eventually pulling alongside her and firing the fatal shots. The details of the murder have yet to be sorted out, but police are continuing to examine video footage and 911 calls, while Chasen’s family and friends are offering a $100,000 reward for any helpful information.
