Who (And What) Is A Birther?

The video of the screaming lady above is not from your local PTA meeting. Nope. It’s a video of a Delaware Town Hall meeting where a middle-aged woman couldn’t control her pride in being an American citizen or the feedback coming from her microphone. This lady has become a key figure for the “Birther” movement, a group of conspiracy theorists who believe that President Obama wasn’t born in the U.S. and is instead a Kenyan citizen who tricked us all into voting for him. Despite the fact that FactCheck.org sent staffers to examine, photograph, and inspect Obama’s birth certificate and, upon returning, posted all of their photographs and findings––which proved that the document is indeed legitimate and Obama is 100 percent American-born — the “Birthers” have not gone away. To top that off, other media sources have even tracked down the local Hawaii newspapers from 1961, which published Barack Obama’s birth announcement. Keep reading »

Joe Jonas And Other Celebrities Who’ve Broken Down Over Breakups

As if tweens around the planet didn’t already swoon at the mere mention of the Jonas brothers, Joe Jonas had to make their pitter-pattering hearts go into early palpitations by crying in front of an arena of fans because of his breakup with Camilla Belle. The middle Jonas brother broke into sobs last night while playing a show in Detroit and it was projected for all to see on the megatron. The commentary of “OH MY GOD he’s crying!!!” by the two Jonas fanatics in the background of the video is to die for. Whether this is a monumental embarrassment for Joe Jonas or his great scheme to win Camilla back, it’s not the first time a celeb has broken down in the public eye after a breakup. [LA Times Blog]

Here are a few more examples of celebs who couldn’t hold it together after being dumped Keep reading »

The Life And Death Of Abortion Doctor George Tiller

Over the weekend The New York Times ran a lengthy, in-depth report about recently murdered abortion practitioner Dr. George R. Tiller. The doctor, who was called “Tiller the Killer” by some and praised as an American hero by others, lived a life defined by his controversial career. Like a real life version of “The Cider House Rules,” Dr. Tiller was one of three doctors in the United States who regularly performed late-term abortions. To some, he saved the lives of thousands of woman; to others, he killed thousands of babies. As glamorous as anti-abortion groups tried to paint Tiller’s life by pointing to his 8,500 square foot home and more than million dollar business profits from performing abortions, his life was far from desirable. The Women Of The World Are Just Getting Prettier

Have you noticed that the world is getting prettier? At least the women in it? There is actually some science that suggests this is the case. A study from the University of Helsinki found that we’re stuck in a female beauty cycle: beautiful women have more children than their less attractive counterparts, those beautiful women give birth more often to girls, these young girls then grow up to be beautiful women, and then the cycle repeats itself. Over many generations, women have become gradually more and more attractive, while males have pretty much stayed the same. The study used images of approximately 2,000 Americans over the course of four decades of their lives to show the growing beauty gap between men and women. But psychologists are quick to point out that today, unlike in the past, women have the means to work hard to maintain their features. So whether it’s Botox or natural selection, because of this cycle, the female population is more beautiful than ever before. Are you buying it? [Daily Mail] Keep reading »

“G-Force” Beats “Harry Potter” At The Box Office

And so it will be written in the record books that over the last weekend in July of 2009, “G-Force” beat out “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” for the top spot in American movie box office sales. Ain’t that sad? FBI agent guinea pigs beat out the sixth installment of the most famous story of our generation. America, what is wrong with you? G-Force looked really stupid. Like really, really dumb—and you spent a whopping $32.3 million to see it in theaters? The rest of the world wasn’t nearly as silly. They kept “Potter” at number one. At least some people have their heads screwed on properly. Now I wonder, America, what happened? Was it the mid-summer blues? Was it the broken air conditioner mixed with the unbearable heat that forced you to flock to the cinema for “G-Force?” Do we all have the emotional maturity of 10-year-olds, and thus “Harry Potter” seemed too intellectual for us? What I’m trying to get at, America, is that I’m disappointed in your movie pickings. Tsk-tsk. [Variety] Keep reading »

This week is shaping up for awesomeness all around in TV land. Jillian will finally pick her dude on “The Bachelorette,” though we have a sneaking suspicion that it will be Reid rather than the two she’s kept around for the finale. Diddy returns to make a band—this time, his own. “More to Love” and “Holidate” will both premiere. NeNe’s braless ta-ta’s return to Bravo in “The Real Housewives of Atlanta.” And Shark Week 2009, kicks into gear! Keep reading »

John Travolta May Be Done With Scientology

For as long as John Travolta has been a Scientologist, the media has been making fun of him. But the jokes grew bitter six months ago when Travolta’s only son, Jett, died. The 16-year-old, who was believed to be autistic and allegedly wasn’t treated because his religion did not allow it, died of a seizure. This devastating blow no doubt changed how the Travoltas think about the church. Rick Ross, an author and lecturer on Scientology told The Daily Mail that, “There have been strong rumors coming out of Scientology that John Travolta is disappointed that the religion was not able to help his son more … It’s led him to question his faith.” Keep reading »

Why Do Famous People Give Birth To So Many Twins?

Last night in Switzerland, Roger Federer, the #1 tennis player in the world, became the proud father of not one, but two babies. His twins Myla Rose and Charlene Riva are another pair to add to the list of celebrity twins. It almost seems like an epidemic at this point. Celebrity gets pregnant, celebrity pops out twice the babies. Is it because celebs don’t naturally procreate and often opt to use in-vitro? Is it because celebs are just so gorgeous the world could use more of their good genes? Is it because in general the whole world is birthing more twins? Who knows!? Here’s a list of celebrities who have become parents to twin babies in the last few years. Keep reading »

Gallery: Athletes’ Good & Bad Luck Girlfriends

kate hudson 072409 ap m jpg
It seems that nowadays a girl can’t just date an athlete without being labeled as his good or bad luck charm. If a celebrity makes an appearance at her beau’s game and he wins, she’s officially good luck and from then on, fans love her. Such was the case this week when Kate Hudson attended boyfriend A-Rod’s Yankee’s game and the Yanks took home their sixth win in a row. So now it’s official: Hudson is good luck. [NY Daily News]

But that doesn’t always seem to be the case. While some girls have been caught cheering on their men to major victories, others have been spotted in the stands when their boyfriends are playing at their worst. We’ve put together a gallery of the good-luck, bad-luck, and yet-to-be-decided girlfriends associated with star athletes…
