Go on girls — women under 30 have made great gains on their male counterparts in the workplace. Single working women under 30 now make eight percent more than their comparably aged male counterparts — and as much as 21 percent more in some cities.
According to an analysis of Census data by Reach Partners, women are making such leaps thanks to an influx of educated women in the workforce. Women are now graduating from college at a rate of 1.5 times more than men — and that means that women are seeing particularly large gains in cities with knowledge-based economies. Keep reading »
“Ronson you’re dead to me; one album I write and you take half the credit—make a career out of it? Don’t think so BRUV.”
–Amy Winehouse, in a tweet to Mark Ronson (yes, of those Ronsons). Winehouse is miffed that Ronson appeared on a British talk show claiming that he created all the tracks on her stellar debut, Back to Black, an album that he actually co-wrote with Winehouse. [NYMag.com] Keep reading »
Feminism has had a busy couple of decades. We’re not talking about how the women’s lib movement and the related equal rights movement have transformed the lives of women. We ladies take on an awful lot of the responsibility when a date goes bad. But sometimes it’s just not our fault. Sometimes the guys we date just don’t know when to shut up, and end up saying rude, stupid or downright utterly shocking things to us. After the jump, some of THE WORST first date confessions we’ve heard from guys. Stuff they should have waited to say or, perhaps, never said at all. It’s not that we don’t appreciate their candidness — but perhaps they should have waited until we got to know each other a little better before confessing their deepest secrets.

Craig Grant just wanted to give his cat Pepper his own space. So he created a small cat-sized town, populated with mini-buildings and streets for Pepper and the hundreds of other cats Grant has saved to live. Now Grant’s cat sanctuary, Caboodle Ranch, houses more than 600 fancy felines, who are supported by Grant’s love and care and the generous donations of volunteers. The Ranch includes a faux Walmart (complete with mini-shopping carts), a tiny town hall, and dozens of tiny houses, too small for humans but perfectly sized for kittens.
So, on yesterday’s episode of “Oprah,” the talk show queen spent the hour fulfilling people’s wildest dreams. This included providing a roomful of 50 brides with free wedding gowns and luxury honeymoons. She also not only paid off a single mom’s $78,000 debt but also gave her an entire year off. In her last season, she’s really taking it to the next level, huh?
So we want to know: What would you want if Oprah were granting you your ultimate wildest dream? Keep reading »
