Do You Have A Signature Look?

This morning, as I was putting on my makeup, I felt a little sad. What was once my signature look is no more. I used to have really thick, long hair, and it was my favorite accessory. Then I stupidly volunteered to be a hair model, and had all of my hair chopped off. I didn’t mean for it to happen — but now I’m dealing with growing back eight inches of hair that was mercilessly taken away from me.

My hair was my signature look, but I’ve had others in the past — like the horrible two-year period in college when I thought wearing dresses over flared jeans was a good idea. It may make me cringe now, but that was my thing back then. For Lady Gaga, it’s not wearing pants (and generally dressing like a cuckoo). For Katy Perry, it’s ’50s-inspired glam. Do you have a signature style or must-have accessory that really says to the world “This Is Me”? Keep reading »

In China, College Girls Find Prostitution A Shortcut To Success

College students need to support themselves somehow. And in China, it’s becoming increasingly popular to make a living selling your body. Prostitution in China is on the rise — particularly among college students — and girls get paid not on a nightly basis, but a yearly fee.

Annual fees start around $5,000 for more homely girls, while the pretty girls — the ones who usually attend drama school — garner the most attention, and are the most expensive. Those girls can make around $25,000 a year, but the price is high: Unprotected sex is rampant among college prostitutes, who don’t want to view the sex work they do as actual prostitution. Old-School Wednesdays: Porno For Pyros Makes Good “Pets”

When I was in high school, I thought I was too cool for all the crap they played on modern rock radio. Now that I am an old lady, I’ve gone back and listened to some of those songs and can’t believe how good they are. For example, Perry Farrell’s post-Jane’s Addiction band, Porno for Pyros. The song “Pets” is an insta-classic. [YouTube] Keep reading »

Colbert Tells “The View” To Leave “Papa Bear” Alone

The women of “The View” definitely learned one thing from Stephen Colbert‘s visit yesterday: Don’t mess with Papa Bear. That’s Colbert’s nickname for Bill O’Reilly. In a show of solidarity with O’Reilly, Colbert pretended to walk off the set of “The View” yesterday during his segment. Colbert’s gesture was in reference to O’Reilly’s controversial “View” visit last week, where both Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar walked off set in the midst of O’Reilly’s interview. Getting Textual: Teens Send More Than 3,000 Texts A Month

Teens: step away from the cell phone. According to new data from Nielson, teens send an average of 3,339 texts PER MONTH. At the same time, voice calling is on the decline. Phone usage has decreased 14 percent from last year. More than 3,000 texts a month is an exorbitant number — that’s around six texts every waking hour. And if each text takes an average of 20 seconds, then kids are spending almost 20 hours a month texting. Keep reading »
