Clinton Kelly Q&A

Why did Clinton Kelly from What Not To Wear call Jessica a "bitch"? Read More »

Yes, it’s true: I got a makeover on TLC’s “What Not to Wear.”

First off, let’s get to the immediate questions. Yes, the show’s hosts Stacy London and Clinton Kelly are as warm, friendly and sweet off camera as they are on. Yes, you really do get $5,000 to spend on clothes and shoes in two days. Yes, they take all of your old clothes away and donate them to charity. Yes, Carmindy is a genius when it comes to makeup and Ted Gibson is a hair wizard.

But probably the most pressing question — why I, a style editor at a major women’s website, would need a complete “What Not to Wear” makeover — is going to take a little longer to answer. Keep reading »

A Bra For In Between Your Boobs?

File under: Problems we didn’t even know we could have. The La Decollette bra doesn’t look like a normal bra. It’s built with the bra cups cut out, and a wide swathe of fabric running up the middle of your chest. And you don’t wear it when you’re out and about — it’s to be worn at night, as a way of preventing something called “cleavage wrinkles.” Cleavage wrinkles are caused when your girls are pushed together too much in an uncontrolled way, so the La Decollette is supposed to manage their spacing while you sleep. Now that that problem’s solved, can we move on to finding a solution for hat head? [La Decollette] Keep reading »

Beauty Test Drive: A 2-In-1 Product That Actually Works?

I’m always a little skeptical of 2-in-1 products; shampoos that are also conditioners rarely do either thing well — and leave hair feeling oily and tangled — so I didn’t have high hopes for Philip B’s lavender hair and body shampoo. But it turns out that even though it’s sodium lauryl sulfate- (SLS) free, the shampoo really lathers up nicely as both a body wash and a gentle shampoo. Why should you care if there’s SLS in your shampoos and body washes? SLS has been found to be an irritant to skin and has been known to cause problems for people with skin sensitivity, so it’s good to avoid it if you can. Plus, buying one product instead of two cuts down on environmental waste, and the pleasant and calming lavender scent doesn’t hurt, either. I might just have to learn to love the 2-in-1 thing a little more. [Philip B, $30] Keep reading »

A Mini Horse With A Lucky Leg

Midnight the miniature horse was only born with three legs, which would normally result in being put down. But thankfully, the folks at Ranch Hand Rescue in Fort Worth, Texas, were able to make him a special prosthetic horse leg, so he can trot, gallup and run with the best of ‘em. It’s enough to make even the saltiest cowboy cry. [Houston Chronicle] Keep reading »

Herve Leger Thinks Models Are Too Skinny And Sad

“If I had to go back to catwalk presentations I would be in a panic .. .Already the models I find are too skinny, too sad. And I knew the age of the super top models, Linda Evangelista and Cindy Crawford, who were always lively and smiling. Today you go between several défilés and you will see the exact same type of girl — it just doesn’t inspire me. Of course I do presentations, I do three presentations a year: spring, fall and cruise, that I show at my showroom and what I like is to have the buyers come to me. They buy, things sell well, and that really gives me the feeling of existing for something because I know that somewhere out there in the world I have clients that adore what I’m doing and that’s really reward enough.”

–Designer Herve Leger, whose legendary bandage dresses are worn by every young starlet ever, on the sad state of skinny models today. Leger does stlll do catwalk shows for his Max Azria collections. [Vogue UK] Keep reading »
