Get Amazing Jewelry Like This…On the Home Shopping Network

See this incredible lady — and her incredible necklace — above? That’s fashion icon and interior designer Iris Apfel. And soon, you’ll be able to own a tiny piece of her sartorial splendor when she launches her very own line of costume jewelry for the Home Shopping Network. Her HSN line will be called Rara Avis by Iris Apfel and will range in price from $20 to $180. Iris says the collection is inspired by both modern and vintage pieces and will be made from Lucite, metals, and beads. “I have amassed an enormous collection of bags, belts, bangles and beads without which I would be lost.,” she explained. “One can change the entire look of an outfit by substituting one accessory for another. I love objects from different worlds, different eras, combined my way. Never uptight, achieving — hopefully — a kind of throwaway chic.” We can’t wait. [Racked] Keep reading »

It’s not easy being green, especially when you want to be fashionable as well. But Kathleen, of the blog Ashtray/Rabbit, manages to make vegan and ethical fashion look positively radiant. Says Kathleen, “My blog is a mix of photos I style and model in against prose and poetry I write. Everything — unless otherwise noted — I wear is vegan and cruelty-free; I set out to produce a blog that displays how vegan fashion can be in vogue, considering the current negative connotations it holds.” Check out some of Kathleen’s favorite things, after the jump! dereklam 051111 m jpg
Designer Derek Lam has created a capsule collection for eBay, consisting of five adorable dresses voted on by eBay shoppers, at reasonable price points (reasonable for Derek Lam, anyway) that you can snap up if you wish! Sadly, the black maxi-dress (far left) is already sold out, but you can still snag one of the other four dresses on offer. But don’t be sad if you can’t afford these gorgeous garments: Lam is working on a wider diffusion line, based somewhat off of this capsule collection. We’re not sure, yet, where it’ll be sold, but we’ll be on the lookout for it. In the meantime, feel free to check out and snag one of these great Lam dresses.

Ask the Man Panel: Alice + Olivia Flounce Dress

I love this otherworldy-seeming Lison Long Flounce Dress from Alice + Olivia, because basically I’m a whore for ruffle sleeves. But also! Doesn’t it look so elvish and “Lord of the Rings”-y? So what do the boys think? We asked our man panel to give an in depth analysis of the flounce dress and they shared their thoughts. Check ‘em out after the jump! Keep reading »

Trade In Your Old Bridesmaid Dresses For A New LBD

It’s such an honor to be a bridesmaid in your friend’s wedding, but it’s also a heap of stress and expense. A new company aims to take at least some of the annoyance off you, by providing a fun option after the wedding’s over. NewlyMaid.com allows bridesmaids to recycle their old bridesmaids dresses and in exchange, get credit towards one of six styles of black dresses from the Dessy Group (they manufacture dresses for Cynthia Rowley and Lela Rose, among others). There are some conditions — your bridesmaid dress needs to be free of stains, rips, and broken zippers, and depending on the condition of it, you’ll get between 30 and 50 percent off the black dress of your choice. The six dress styles are pretty basic, but we suppose that’s kind of the idea; you get rid of something you’ll never wear again, and in exchange, get a garment that will be a whole lot more useful. Keep in mind, you’ll still be spending around $100 on any of these dresses, even with the discount. So, let us offer another alternative — gye the dress black yourself and get it professionally altered. [NewlyMaid] Keep reading »
