DMX, Weight Loss Guru

Sometimes you’re like, “Whatever happened to mid-oughts rapper DMX, he of the many dog-fighting arrests, dramatic ‘Behind the Music’ episode, and anthemic ‘Up In Here’” track?” While walking around West Philadelphia this weekend, I think I may have found out. Keep reading »

Girl Talk: How Do You Get Self-Esteem?

Last week, I had dinner with a friend and a gauntlet of sorts was thrown: shape up and get some self-esteem, Julie, because you’re really bringing everybody down. Well okay, I thought. I get that. Nobody wants to hang out with a sad sack. But I just don’t know how you go about acquiring self-esteem.

This isn’t a ploy to get you to say nice things about me, or to pump me up with artificial compliments. I am truly at a loss as to how you transform the way you think about yourself. This is something that I’ve struggled with all my life. Keep reading »

The Best Body Lotion You’ll Never Smell

Isn’t it the worst when someone in your office or home slathers on a pungent, overbearing lotion that invades your whole space? I think so too. That’s why I love Atopalm’s body moisturizer. It’s not that it’s totally scentless — I find totally scentless moisturizers very suspect — it’s just that the fragrance is so pleasantly mild that it won’t overwhelm your senses or make you dizzy. How good is it? My cubicle mate, the lovely Ami, asks me for a few pumps of it on occasion. So you’ve got two Frisky staffers’ seals of approval!

What’s Happening Here? “Pon Pon Pon” Edition

Since I don’t speak a lick of Japanese, I’m forced to visually interpret what this weird video from Japanese artist Kyary Pamyu Pamyu is all about. My take: “I love cute stuff, so much cute stuff, also dripping eyeballs. Maybe I murder you? Eyeballs vomit from my mouth! It’s my evil! A dancing adult baby clenches my spirit. It is always in the shadows. Let’s dance!” What’s your take? [YouTube] Keep reading »

Style 911: “I Need An Eco-Friendly Denim Jacket!”

I’m in the market for a jean jacket, but I want to get one that’s from am eco-denim company. I don’t really know whats out there, except for the Gap and J. Crew [ED NOTE: Sorry Amelia!], which I don’t think are known for their organic cotton farming or treatment of kids in their factories. What do you recommend? – Melissa

I didn’t think it would be quite such a major challenge to find a denim jean jacket made from organic cotton, but whoa, milady, it seems the eco-friendly revolution does not include cool denim jackets. While there are plenty of great organic denim lines like Loomstate and Linda Loudermilk Denim, they don’t seem to produce denim for your top half so much. But I did manage to find a great denim jacket, as well as some non-denim, eco-friendly jacket alternatives. Check ‘em out after the jump! Keep reading »

Beyonce Loves On Lady Gaga

“I love Gaga. I mean, if she didn’t perform and she wasn’t a singer, just as a human being I love her to death. But on top of it, she is the most talented pop star right now, and I’m so happy for her. It’s just really inspiring to see someone who just creates their own destiny and comes up with their own looks and writes their own songs and choreographs and is in control and is not contrived. If you took away every bit of costume and she just sat in front of a piano, she would still tear it down. She’s just that talented, and she deserves it all. And I’m just happy to work with her. I love her.”

Beyonce shares her respect for her “Telephone” and “Videophone” collaborator, Lady Gaga. See, there can be more than one diva in the house. [PrideSource] Keep reading »

Hailee Steinfeld, Chloe Moretz & Elle Fanning Cry For “Love” Magazine

You guys already know how I feel about turning ultra young girls into supermodels. However, I’d be remiss in not letting you know about these three covers of the new issue of Love magazine, featuring Chloe Moretz, Elle Fanning and Hailee Steinfeld. Shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggot, each cover features one of the girls in ethereal glowing light, crying. I suppose it has something to do with the heightened emotional state of teenage girldom or something. Mamas, don’t let your babies grow up to be cover models. Check out the two other covers after the jump.[MDX] Keep reading »

“Sex And The City” Gets The Taiwanese Animation Treatment

So, the Next Media Animation company in Taiwan is known for making low budget, quick-turnaround animations of current events for Taiwanese news shows. They just put together a new video about the planned “Sex and the City” prequel, which is supposedly going to star Blake Lively, Selena Gomez, Emma Roberts and Elizabeth Olsen. Out with the old walker-using Samantha, and in with the new, younger, self-involved versions of themselves! [YouTube] Keep reading »

Watch MTV Explain The Internet In 1995

There may be nothing quite as wonderful as listening to Kurt Loder reporting about the burgeoning cyber revolution in 1995. Loder, who remains MTV’s lone staunch cynical dad figure, discusses in-depth the “world wide computer network” and its many “special interest truck stops” called websites. Enjoy taking a peak at awesomely antiquated Geocities sites and watching pre-YouTube Foo Fighters videos. As Coolio helpfully explains, “If it ain’t on the information superhighway baby, where is it?” [YouTube] Keep reading »
