Style 911: What Do I Wear With Purple Jeans?

I see you rocking your red J Brand jeans all the time and love how you pull off the look. You have inspired me to buy myself a pair of their colored jeans. I opted for the aubergine pair and am struggling on how to make them more work appropriate. I work in a business casual environment in a position of authority (don’t tell any of the staff that I spend a solid hour a day on The Frisky and other blog loves!). I also am among the youngest employees in the company and by far the youngest manager (I’m 29). Anyway, I would love your take on how to dress up my new jean loves and make them more work appropriate.– Angie

Aubergine is a surprisingly tricky color to wear. And though it’s color wheel opposite is yellow, I wouldn’t recommend you go there. Instead, I like pairing deep purple with another dark, warm shade, like navy or black. To keep the outfit classy, wear high heels. Click after the jump to see how I would dress up these cool jeans. A Shoe Rack and Sculpture, Too

We spend thousands of dollars on shoes in a lifetime, so it makes sense that to treat our shoes with the care and concern we’d treat a special work of art. That’s the thought behind the Shrine Rack, which allows you to hang your shoes on the wall in a seemingly floating display. And that leaves you plenty more room to store new pairs under your bed.

How Shocking: John Galliano Guilty Of Racism

Good news for people who hate bad guys: After six months of legal jimmerjammer, John Galliano, the former fashion designer for Christian Dior, was found guilty of “public insults toward persons on the basis of their religion or origin.” Galliano, if you remember, famously got caught shouting racist and anti-Semitic remarks at fellow patrons at a Paris cafe this past year. The verdict was seen as a success, except that, well, his conviction actually comes with no punishment. The judge gave Galliano a suspended fine of €6,000 euro, though he will have to pay more than €16,000 in legal fees for the plaintiffs. Quite a deal, considering plaintiff Philippe Virgitti initially asked the courts for €220,000 in pain and suffering, after Galliano called him a “f**king Asian bastard.” [MSNBC] Keep reading »

La Di Da It’s Fashions Night Out!

Pssst … Have you heard? It’s Fashions Night Out–the third annual retail explosion-a-thon where mega-retailers and indie designers alike stay open late as a sort of a commercial nuit blanche, aimed at encouraging customers to engage with their stores, check out new items and buy, buy, buy. Started by Vogue and the Council of Fashion Designers of America, FNO was meant to help boost the economy after the economic downturn of 2008. Personally, Fashions Night Out makes me want to crawl in a hole and die, but if you’re into it–check out what’s going on in your town simply by Googling. You can also see what’s going on in NYC–the de facto home of FNO on the FNO website. And let us know if you got any great steals or deals in the comments! Keep reading »

Why, Yes, I Probably Do Have Misophonia, Now Stop Chewing Like That!

Do you ever fly into a small brain rage at the sound of your friends or lovers swallowing? Freak out at the tenor of your officemate’s voice? Want to strangle your roommate over their incessant throat clearing? Then you, like me, might have a case of misophonia. What the hell is misophonia? It’s a newly named disorder for people who cannot handle the tiny sounds of everyday life. If you’re driven to distraction, anger and rage by people chewing gum, or the sound of a fork hitting your friend’s teeth, or a foot tapping, you may have misophonia. And great news! There is no cure! Keep reading »

Wilson Phillips Gets A Reality TV Show: Anticipation Vs. Reality

When we heard ’90s sisterly girl group Wilson Phillips was somehow gifted a reality TV show by the TV Guide Network — tentatively titled “The Wilson Phillips Project” — we were stoked. Really stoked. But then we realized that our expectations of what an awesome show this could potentially be would most likely never be met. That’s because reality TV producers probably think viewers want to see lots of shots of Carnie Wilson talking about her weight struggles and fighting with her thinner, more boring sister. They probably also think we want to see Chynna Phillips deal with her ever-exploding family drama (mom and are Michelle and John Phillips, from the Mamas and the Papas, and sis is Mackenzie Phillips). But what we really want to see? The three women in vests. On a mountain top. Belting out “Hold On.” [NYMag.com] Keep reading »

Among your cadre of summer-to-fall jacket options, consider the cropped trench. It’s cute, versatile and can be worn as both outerwear and — if you’re feeling particularly daring — as a blazer.
