This past weekend I stumbled into the Brooklyn headquarters of the Sketchbook Project and I’m now one of its biggest fans. Around for the past six years, the Sketchbook Project is a traveling library of artist sketchbooks that has a permanent home in Brooklyn. Visitors to the project can browse through and explore literally thousands of artists’ books, and see the creative process at work. Those who don’t live along the tour — Chicago, Portland (Maine and Oregon), Boston, Philadelphia, San Francisco, London, Melbourne and Vancouver and L.A. — can also flip through thousands of books online, searching by artist, theme or location.
And that’s not all! Keep reading »
We’re having a royal blue moment. The color is so fiercely cheerful, you can’t help but be in a good mood while wearing it. Get into it! Ten great royal blue items after the jump!
Customers craving the Missoni for Target line were sorely disappointed yesterday, when they found the collection sold out in a matter of hours — and sometimes minutes — online (when the site was working, that is) and in stores. To make matters worse, thousands of Missoni for Target items are now popping up on eBay, marked up by hundreds of dollars. It seems Missoni scalpers were able to get their hands on the goods where thousands of earnest consumers weren’t, and are now trying to make a quick buck of their booty. And as you can imagine, fans of the line are pissed — and they’ve taken to Twitter to discourage each other from purchasing the line off eBay. Instead, Target recommends exercising just a little bit of patience — the line will be restocked within a day or two, which shouldn’t be too long to wait for a new sweater or multicolored suitcase now, should it? So, I was flipping through the latest collections from NY Fashion Week and I came across American designer Thom Browne’s newest looks. Browne is more well-known for his menswear line, but this collection focused primarily on women. Or birds. Or lobsters. It’s just … out of control, from boxy shoulders, to outsized proportions, to fantastical sea creatures. You must see it to believe it!
Look at this picture and tell me this isn’t one of the best things you’ve ever seen. Nicki Minaj making small talk with Vogue’s Anna Wintour. Can you even imagine what they’re chatting about? Nicki’s probably all, “Lady, I like your floral situation,” while Anna sits by, quietly horrified by Nicki’s loud craft store-inspired get-up. “Project Runway” alum Christian Siriano’s Spring 2012 collection was all about balancing bright colors with soft, neutral palettes (Jill Stuart did a similar thing). We love the unexpected color combinations, and did our best to recreate Siriano’s style. Take a look after the jump. Keep reading »
Dear Potential Boyfriend: Your an innovator, a restless soul, a man whose creativity couldn’t be expressed merely via piercings and “666″ tattoos. No, no, you needed something more. You craved a greater tool for self-expression and body modification. So you went for facial implants — several of them! — to give your face an unsettling wavy complexion. Boyfriend, alleged murderer boyfriend, you really have outdone yourself. Color me impressed. [The Smoking Gun] Keep reading »
Thinking about buying something from Missoni’s extensive line for Target? Good luck with that. Thanks to the high volume of users trying to get their grubby mitts on the collection, Target’s site is currently offline. If you go to the site right now, you’ll receive a message that “We are hard at work making the site better. Sorry for inconvenience – we’ll be back up and running shortly.” We’re not particularly surprised, given the fervor with which the Missoni line has been received. Earlier this month, a Missoni for Target pop-up shop in New York City was cleaned out in a matter of hours and forced to close early. Oh, and that sound you hear? That’s Amelia, weeping because, ahem, “I just want that damn throw blanket!” Keep reading »
In another life, I will come back half as cool as Charlyne Yi. This actress/comedian/adorable creature gets to hang out with fun bands, be in cool movies, and now, she’s on the coolest kids show ever, guest starring alongside Fred Armisen on “Yo Gabba Gabba” as a treasure hunting explorer. Le sigh. [NYMag] Keep reading »
Slow loris, kind of my spirit animal, NBD. Here he is getting tickled, and getting crunk while listening to some of his favorite jams. Party on, slow loris. [Buzzfeed
