“In 2010, it came to a head and I had to make a decision. There were only two factors to consider: I could either stand in the way of her dreams, or I could get on board with it. And I knew she needed another coach. I knew she needed a higher level of coaching. There were a lot of different components. Her former coach was not a gymnast, he was a swimmer. [Her current coach Liang] Chow was a former gymnast with the Republic of China. He was an amazing gymnast himself, and he produced a gymnast to the level of Shawn Johnson. What might he be able to do with my daughter?”
– Natalie Hawkins, mom to Olympic all-around gold medal gymnast Gabrielle Douglas, talks to The Frisky about her decision to let her daughter leave home to train with gymnastics coach Liang Chow. Chow’s gym in Iowa is located across the country from the family’s Virginia home and Douglas lived with a host family while she trained. We were so psyched to see Gabby win gold in all-arounds and do her part to help her team win gold as well — can you imagine how proud her mom must be? Congrats to Gabby and her whole family for all that she has achieved this week.
I’ve spent the last few days in London, soaking up all the city and all the 2012 Summer Olympics has to offer. From a boat tour of London on the Thames, to amazing seats at the gymnastics competition, this has been the trip of a lifetime!

So that’s why I’ve searched high and low to find several leopard printed pieces that are actually pretty cool. The rule is, when you’re wearing a pattern that’s as bold as leopard, try pairing it with more demure accessories, and balance out the wild print with a classic shape. And with those words of wisdom, it’s off to the leopard looks …
I’m officially in London on behalf of The Frisky and P&G Beauty. Above, the Olympic rings over the Thames River. Check out another scenic pic after the jump! Keep reading »
Frisky reader Jackie was really coveting these Jeffrey Campbell wedges. They’re pretty, and delicate and have a sexy little peep toe. But what she didn’t love: the price. At $114, they were well out of her price range. So we searched high and low, and came up with several cute, inexpensive options. Each option offers something a little different, at a more pleasing price point. Check ‘em out after the jump!

Earlier this week, important news broke: a mutt named Lejon adopted white lion cub JoJo after JoJo’s mom became sick and was unable to take care of her. They’re the best of friends, and oh my God, my mind is exploding from the combined cuteness. Make. It. Stop.
But Lejon is hardly the only animal to take up caring for another species in need. After the jump, we’ve got several more surprising (and super cute) inter-species adoptions.
