The “Gossip Girl” Tour Of NYC, Plus Other TV Tours We’d Like To Take

OMG! As we told you last week, for $40 dollars you can take a “Gossip Girl” tour of New York’s Upper East Side, the glitzy concrete playground of Blair, Serena, et al. Offered by On Location tours, purveyors of the mega-popular “Sex and the City” tour, this one will take you past the Palace Hotel, home to the Bass and Van der Woodsen clans, as well as other places you can’t afford, like Henri Bendel. “Gossip Girl” joins Carrie & Co., “Seinfeld,” and “The Sopranos,” which have all inspired their own tour franchises. Here are five more TV tours we wish existed. Keep reading »

Bea Arthur, Television’s Ballsiest Broad

Bea Arthur passed away over the weekend at the age of 86. Sadness. Everything I needed to know about scathing wit I learned from Dorothy Zbornak, who was my constant companion on TV throughout kidhood. “The Golden Girls” were funny and fierce, not letting age get in the way of a good time. Big ups for Earth Day! On Monday, we gave you the skinny on Freegans, and yesterday we profiled Locavores. Today, we’re loving on the Righteous Recycler. You know, that friend who picks your Diet Coke can out of the trash and keeps it until you pass a recycling bin, unplugs all electronics, and composts foodthings in her kitchen. Keep reading »

The “Craigslist Killer” and Other Reasons To Fear Preppies

Police have arrested the alleged “Craigslist Killer,” who terrorized at least two women in Boston in the last 10 days, leaving one of them dead. This computer-age Jack the Ripper suspect is 23-year-old Philip Markoff, a second-year med student at Boston University. The clean-cut creepster is accused of trolling for “massages” via the interweb, then tying up said masseuses and torturing them in fancy hotels. [AP via Yahoo!] Keep reading »
