A win for the transgender community! Coy Mathis, a transgendered 6-year-old from Fountain, Colorado has won a case against the Fountain-Fort Carson School District 8, allowing her to officially use the girls’ bathroom.

Coy had been using the girls’ bathroom at her school because she identifies as a female. Although she was assigned the male gender at birth, she wears girls’ clothing and is identified as female in both her passport and state identification.

In December, the Eagleside Elementary School principal asked Coy to use the boys’ bathroom, gender-neutral faculty bathrooms or the nurse’s bathroom. Coy’s parents, Kathryn and Jeremy Mathis, filed a complaint back in February, with the Colorado Civil Rights Division, citing discrimination. Keep reading »

Intern Daley is off to South Africa for the semester! Read More »

The Frisky’s former intern Daley is back from studying abroad for her spring semester — and back interning at The Frisky. Here’s the last in her series of pieces about her studies in Africa.

Clad in my black tank top and baggy, boldly printed South African pants, the dryness from my face was forming cracks in my foundation, and my mascara was flaking under my heavy eyelids. I had just been on an 11-1/2 hour flight from Cape Town to Amsterdam, and was now flying eight more hours over the pond, back to New York City for the summer. A glass of white wine and a bit of shuteye was calling my name, and when the male flight attendant strolled through the aisle with his beverage cart, I put in my order.

“Can I get a glass of white wine and a water, please,” I mumbled.

“Sure,” the flight attendant responded. As he was pouring my glass, he did a double take at my face and asked in his Dutch accent, “You are over 16?” Keep reading »

Frisky staffers are not the only ones finding pleasure with their hands between their legs. According to former OB/GYN and now Texas Congressman Micheal Burgess (a Republican, natch), male fetuses are masturbating as well!

“Watch a sonogram of a 15-week baby, and they have movement that are purposeful,” Burgess explained during a House committee on Monday when arguing for more restrictions against abortion. “They stroke their face. If they’re a male baby, they may have their hand between their legs. If they feel pleasure, why is it so hard to think that they could feel pain? Sometimes we have to give voice to the voiceless, and this is one of those times.” Keep reading »

Feminist Taylor Swift Twitter Account Boasts 76,000 Followers In 6 Days

It all began with Amelia’s future husband, the sizzling Ryan Gosling, after he expressed his disappointment with the NC-17 rating his movie, “Blue Valentine,” received because it featured him giving oral sex to costar Michelle Williams. The strict rating discouraged Gosling because, if the genders were reversed, and a scene where a woman performs oral on a man was shown, the film would get a less strict, R-rating. Gosling’s feminist stance inspired the beloved and well-known Tumblr blog, Feminist Ryan Gosling.

Recently, more feminist parodies have been exploding across the web, specifically on Twitter. Beginning on June 12, Feminist Taylor Swift (@feministtswift) tweeted, “She wears short skirts/ I wear T-shirts/Neither of us is asking for it,” and has since gained more than 76,000 followers in just six days. Since its beginning, Feminist Taylor Swift has tweeted 72 times, including my personal favorite, “You were Romeo/ I was a scarlet letter/ Because I’ve had like, 6 boyfriends/ Which isn’t even that many/ Slut shaming is a real problem.” Keep reading »

The Frisky’s former intern extraordinaire, Daley, is studying abroad during her spring semester. Over the next several months, she’ll be writing us dispatches from her studies in  Africa.

My butt was starting to ache as his backbone constantly shifted from underneath me. With every step he took, my thumping heart was anticipating a fall as I held on for dear life to the experienced rider in front of me. My legs stretched out farther than they ever have and the blanket placed between us was doing little to subside my distress. It was my third week in South Africa, I had yet to start school, and I was free riding the world’s largest land animal. Keep reading »

Study Abroad: I’m Off To South Africa For The Semester

The Frisky’s former intern extraordinaire, Daley, is studying abroad during her spring semester. Over the next several months, she’ll be writing us dispatches from her studies in  Africa.

“South Africa is going to be hot,” I told Kim, my hairstylist of almost nine years, “so I need a couple of inches off.”

While individually dying the multitude of grey hairs that had enveloped my head, Kim laughed and said, “Why didn’t you pick, like, a European country to study abroad, like a normal kid?”

“The evil Spanish language,” I replied. Keep reading »
