6 Pioneering Female Porn Stars

Among life’s many distinctions, there is one that is a truly elite club that many of us will only dream of joining: the first porn start to do ___.  Somebody has to be the first — think about i! Last we learned that “erotic actress” Sylvia Kristel, who appeared in the 1974 French film “Emmanuelle,” had died of cancer at age 60. She wasn’t just any “erotic actress,” though: Sylvia Kristel was heralded by none other than People magazine as “arguably the world’s first true porn star.” “Emmanuelle” is about the wife of a diplomat living in Bangkok and their many affairs and was one of the first films with sex in it to be shown in mainstream theaters.

So that got us thinking: which other pioneering porn stars deserve our accolades?

I’d had enough with drugstore moisturizers until I found the heavenly Aveeno Clear Complexion Daily Moisturizer. This little blessing in a bottle was just calling out to my acne-inflamed face. After using the moisturizer for the last four months, I have noticed how few breakouts I now have, how much the size of my inflammations have been reduced, and how invisible the red scarring of previous breakouts has become with every application. While the moisturizer does make my face a bit shiny at times, I’ve decided that using tons of blotting papers is worth the price of clear skin! [$15, Aveeno]

Earlier this month, my friend and I found ourselves punching tufts of air while hysterically laughing throughout our first self-defense class. At 11 a.m. on a Saturday morning, I was pumped to punch some pretend perpetrators and learn how to become more acutely aware of my surroundings.

I consider myself a human suffering from “small dog syndrome,” meaning I think I am bigger and take up more space than I actually do. While this can sometimes get me into trouble, my self-defense instructor would most likely say this defect is the best thing a 5’2″ woman can be blessed with.

Check out the five favorite things I learned at my self-defense class after the jump! Keep reading »

Just in time for the Halloween festivities, these lollipops will have you at a loss for words.  [$9.99 for all four, Think Geek]

I don’t know about y’all, but ever since I upgraded my iPhone 4S to the new iOS 6 update, the battery has been hastily dying with every iHoroscope and Instagram fix. Feeling mine and millions of other women’s wireless woes, Chicagoan Liz Ormesher Salcedo created the Everpurse, a small clutch that actually charges your phone when placed into a side pocket.

Couples who divvy up washing dishes, cleaning the laundry, and other house chores are more likely to get divorced than couples where the woman does the homemaking by herself, according to a Norwegian study of thousands of couples called Equality in the Home.

In the study, which looked at 2007-08 data, researchers found that the 25 percent of married couples that shared housework were more likely to get divorced, compared to the 71 percent of households where the woman was in charge of doing all the chores. Interestingly, having men do the majority of the housework didn’t bode well either.  Keep reading »
