Calling Divorce “Immature And Selfish” Is Immature, Selfish And Wrong

With a divorce rate of roughly 50 percent, almost all of us know someone — a friend, a colleague, a family member, ourselves — whose marriage didn’t work out. We tell ourselves, especially if they had kids, that the family will be better off, that they will all be happier in a split family than they would in a united but fighting one. Writer Penelope Trunk of The Brazen Careerist isn’t so sure.

Trunk has built a career on being shocking and saying everything that is on her mind. With a post she did a few days ago, she has certainly ruffled a few feathers. In it, she calls divorce an “incredibly lame and selfish route to take.” She says: “Divorce is immature and selfish.” Wow. This is especially interesting coming from someone who is herself divorced and who is also trying to work out a relationship with a man she openly admits abuses her on a regular basis.

In other words, her opinion may be slightly colored by her own experience. But is she right? Read more…

8 Ways Pinterest Can Change Your Life

Surely by now you’ve heard of a little thing called Pinterest, right? It’s an invite-only online pin board website that I can’t get enough of. All you need to get started is someone you know with an account to “invite” you to join. Once you’re in, the fun begins.

Here’s how it works: You can “pin” things you find online — for example, delectable recipes, awesome accessories, swoon-worthy home decor ideas, and even inspirational quotes — and save them to your personal board. It’s a visually appealing way to collect all the things you love online and store them in one place. Keep reading »

Susan G. Komen Gun Proves They Can’t Reverse The Stigma They Created

The Susan G. Komen Foundation used to stand for something good, but their techniques of late — and especially their decision to stop funding Planned Parenthood – have made many of us question any of their motives at all. And even though they announced today that they will continue funding Planned Parenthood, the damage is done.

Yes, Komen has caved under the enormous pressure from most of America, but no matter what founder Nancy Brinker CLAIMS, the original decision was made for political reasons and has tarnished them forever. Because of the decision, all of the hypocritical decisions they have made have come to light. And it’s mind blowing. Keep reading »

35 Brutally Honest Reasons Women Say No To Sex

You know how sometimes people say women say one thing but mean another? Well, that’s totally true. For women and men, but I can only really speak for women because I am one. One subject that is often difficult to be totally and completely upfront about is sex. And I mean whether you are a woman having sex with a new lover or sex with your husband of 3,987 years (or maybe it just feels that long). We kind of have a one size fits all phrase for when we don’t want to have sex. Perhaps you’ve heard it before? “I’m just not in the mood.”

Fair enough. Sometimes we just aren’t in the mood and it’s for no other reason than the thought of getting naked gives us a headache. (Headache, of course, is another common excuse and often very real.) But there are many times we aren’t in the mood for a reason. Maybe it’s something the man did, or something we did. So I took this topic to a whole bunch of women and asked for their responses on the real reason they say no to sex. Some may surprise you. Read more…

New Brazilian Blowout Labels Should Scare Us Into Loving Our Curly Hair

New legislation out of California today forces Brazilian blowout products to list their potentially hazardous materials on the label. It’s great news if you’re into staying away from hair products that contain possible carcinogens, bad news if you just want your hair silky and straight and prefer to be kept in the dark about what nasty things it could be doing to your health.

The new labels will inform users that formaldehyde gas is emitted during use, which has been proven in some cases to cause cancer. It’s not only unhealthy for women who use it on their own hair, but also for hairstylists who inhale the product when they use it on clients. Part of the settlement requires companies to hand out pamphlets to salons on how to stay safe while using the stuff.

OK. Can we just accept our curly hair already and stop using this junk? Read more…

Bad-Boy Club Drug Could Be The Answer To Depression

Wow, I never thought I’d see the day: Special K is about to get a makeover! Remember the drug’s sleazy clubbing days in the ’90s? The highly-addictive drug, called ketamine, started off as a humble animal tranquilizer but worked its ways into the hottest night spots, sending users into an ecstasy that made time stand still — or, more accurately, into a “dissociative anesthesia” that could lead to a psychotic breakdown.

But here’s the latest twist in ketamine’s history: It could revolutionize the way depression is treated. I’m not talking your garden-variety blues. This is for real, serious, deep, clinical depression. How could something so toxic for club kids be so helpful for people who are ill? Read more...

5 Most Common Relationship Fights And How To Avoid Them

Couples fight. We know this. Even the most functional couples have spats now and again. Relationship fights, they happen.

However, there are many relationship fights that happen that can be avoided. Because let’s face it — the more stress and fighting a relationship has, the less enjoyable it is.

Here are some common relationship fights and how to (hopefully) avoid them. Read more…

“Toddlers & Tiaras”‘ Moms Vs. Media: Who’s Sexualizing These Little Girls?

“Toddlers & Tiaras” pageant mom Susanna Barrett is mad. She’s just sick and tired of the way the media sexualizes little girls, and she’s not going to take it anymore! In fact, she’s launched a $30 million lawsuit against the Huffington Post, TMZ, and The Daily Mail for “brazenly” trying to sexualize her daughter, Isabella Barrett.

Yeah, take that, wicked, over-sexed media people! This sexualizing of innocent 5-year-old girls has got to stop! Just because little Isabella was caught on video singing along to the song “I’m Sexy and I Know It,” with a microphone, with mommy sitting right next to her … wait, something is very wrong with this picture, and I don’t think it has anything to do with TMZ, HuffPo, or the Daily Mail. 8 Signs It’s Time To Take A Break From Your Relationship

Taking a break is one of the most challenging, frustrating, and saddening parts of a relationship. No one wants to feel as though their relationship has failed or that they themselves have somehow failed. But sometimes, a break is necessary. Not only is it necessary, sometimes, it’s a good thing. Here are eight signs that it’s time to take a break from your current relationship.

1. You don’t talk anymore. Do you spend time talking — really talking — with your partner, or do you resort to talking about the weather (or other trivial stuff) only? When you’ve stopped really communicating, it’s time to take a break. Read more…

The “Bachelor” Women Need To Stop Forcing Love

If ABC’s “The Bachelor” teaches us anything about love (besides the fact that I am thrilled I was engaged and married before 25), it’s this: You can’t force love. From The Supremes we may have learned “You Can’t Hurry Love,” but “The Bachelor” has taught us something even more important.

The fact is, no matter how much you want to “open up” to someone or make them love you over the other girls, it’s never going to happen unless it’s there to begin with. There is a reason the “on paper” guy is bad everywhere else. And let’s face it: For most of the girls on the show, Ben Flajnik – and every Bachelor besides him — is merely good on paper.

It’s the annoying secret the sobbing girls in the limo always seem to forget. The fact is, not every guy is going to be a good match. Read more…
