Meet Your New Super Cool Eco-Friendly Glasses

Even though geek-chic has been a colossal trend the past few years, we’re completely over thick plastic frames. We’re moving on to hipper wood frames by Sire’s Crown, which uses eco-friendly woods and plastics to make their eyeglasses and sunglasses.

It’s simple logic that eyeglasses should enhance, not detract, from your features, especially since you wear them all day, everyday. And Sire’s Crown has a frame to fit every face and lifestyle. We’re quite smitten with the Moorea frames, which are available in nine different woods and remind us of glasses Hyde would have worn on “That ’70s Show.” The Dylan Thomas frames are also available in a variety of woods and were inspired by the Welsh poet. These frames have a classic wayfarer vibe, so they’ll look chic on many faces. Sire’s Crown also produces glasses with eco-friendly plastic fronts for those that enjoy a bit of mixed media. Kanye West Doesn’t Know What Women Want to Wear

The hype surrounding Kanye West’s debut women’s fashion line, DW, was on overdrive this past weekend, as the rapper-turned-designer presented his first collection during Paris Fashion Week. Of course it was a star-studded affair, and fashion heavy-hitters like Anna Wintour, Robin Givhan, and Carine Roitfeld were in attendance. Kanye consulted on the collection with other fashion insiders, including Central Saint Martins professor and British fashion guru Louise Wilson, who taught Alexander McQueen, Giles Deacon, and many other famous designers.

Although Kanye put in a lot of work and preparation on DW, it still falls flat … or should I say heavy … to me. Some fashion editors and critics were polite enough to say that he made a valiant first attempt and the line is a work in progress. But others weren’t too shy or awestruck by Mr. West as to basically call DW a knock-off. Keep reading »

OK, so this has been the year of skin woes for me. First, I accidentally burnt my lips using two common beauty products — teeth whitener and Blistex. After a few weeks, my lips healed for a short time, and then began to peel again. Few products offered any long-term therapeutic relief, and after speaking to my dermatologist, we realized that I had eczema around my lips.

You’re probably wondering, What does this have to do with a Spa Sonic Skin Care System Face & Body Polisher? Allow me to explain.

A couple years ago, I wrote a love letter of sorts to my hand-me-down leather jacket. But sadly, my little leather jacket and I are breaking up. Why? Well my too-wide shoulders have pushed a wedge between us. So now I’m on a hunt for a new love because everyone needs an LLJ. Shopping Guide: Suiting Up

Nowadays, it’s quite easy to marry style with professionalism in a business suit. You only need to look for expensive-looking fabrics and unusual details, like oversized buttons or bright colors. It also helps to know your own style. For example, if you tend to wear skinny jeans in your casual life, then pick a slim-cut pair of suit pants. And if you prefer a skirt suit, keep the length work-appropriate, but also take the opportunity to show off a bitchin’ pair of heels or boots. Simply think of your suit as a canvas to display your personality and your professionalism. Wearing a suit isn’t required at The Frisky, but we’d happily wear one of these 10 power suits.

Rediscovering Gold Lipstick

Ask any of my friends about my signature makeup look, and they’ll tell you that I love a bold lip–either red or purple–it doesn’t matter as long as it’s noticeable. But lately, I’ve rediscovered my favorite lip color in high school — IMAN Citron. I used to slather on this gold lipstick when I wanted to feel older than my 16 years. And now at almost 31, it’s strange how this lipstick color reminds me of my youth … and the different beauty looks of my life. Keep reading »

Inspiration Board: FX’s “Archer”

Inspiration Board: FX's "Archer"
As the only girl in a group of fanboys, I’ve been introduced to more late night, adult animation than I care to mention. Sometimes I watch because I’m outnumbered, like in the case of Cartoon Network’s “Regular Show.” But other times I discover a comedic and entertaining gem like FX’s “Archer,” an animated series about the ISIS spy agency and its employees, who think of every mission as an opportunity to undermine, sabotage, and screw each other, literally and figuratively. There are three reasons I’m in love with “Archer.” One, it’s able to spoof both James Bond and “Mad Men” at the same time. Two, the animation appeals to my aesthetic sensibilities because it’s a cross between realism and comic book animation. And three, the characters actually change clothes, which in my mind is quite a feat in an animated series — I may be a slight fangirl, but most things in my life still come down to style. Which brings me to the main purpose of this slideshow, to get fashion inspiration from the characters of “Archer.” Since most of the action occurs at the ISIS headquarters, Archer and his crew can show us a thing or two about dressing for the office.
