There are three reasons we reach for knee-high boots when the temperature dips. First, they help keep legs warm. Second, knee-high boots are like the universal shoe, going with pants, skirts, dresses, and shorts. And third, they’re hella chic and sophisticated! Here are 12 of our favorite pairs…
I hate the rain! I hate it so much that I’ve been known to cancel appointments and outings if there’s a downpour. Why? Well, this isn’t a very good reason, but it’s too difficult to stay stylish and dry when it’s raining. My shoes are usually what I love most about my outfits, and I think of Wellies as a necessary evil … for the rest of the world. But to make going out in the rain a little more bearable, I’m picking up a Jimeale New York umbrella. These cute and stylish umbrellas are available in several colors and feature whimsical polka dots on the outside and Jimeale’s sophisticated signature chocolate and white stripe inside. This double-lined umbrella won’t make the rain a completely fashionable affair, but it’s so darling I wouldn’t dare keep it cooped up indoors on a rainy day.
Beyonce’s known for her lavish and constricting performance costumes, but has her style changed now that she’s expecting a little diva? Well, she still goes for lavish, but the silhouette of her garments is much looser. She still dresses the part of “the hottest chick in the game” on the red carpet, proving that pregnancy doesn’t have to decrease style.
Thanksgiving Day is right around the corner, and while the food usually gets all the attention, we bet you can turn a few heads away from the turkey with a festive dress. Look for inspiration from the fall foliage when selecting a dress color and you’ll be all set for Turkey Day … and you’ll look hotter than your annoying relatives too!
It had never occurred to me that a water filter could be both functional and cool looking. A few years ago, I chucked my water filter because it took up too much valuable real estate in my fridge and I was convinced it had stopped working. I was content with the finding (or maybe urban legend) that the Bronx has some of the cleanest water in the country, so I figured I’d be alright. Then I noticed my refrigerated water had a weird taste and I suspected the plastic bottle I used repeatedly wasn’t meant for such use. That’s why I’m now on the Bobble wagon. The recently launched Bobble Jug has changed how I drink tap water. Not only is this water filtration pitcher sleek enough to fit in the door of the fridge, but it also holds a large amount of water and filters three times faster than other filters. Plus, drinking tap water means there are less single-serve water bottles in landfills. So the Bobble Jug is a sleek, sexy, and sustainable win for us all.
For those of you who wish Halloween was a year-long affair or still dream of being a super hero(ine), we have some good news for you. Some genius is trying to capitalize on the dwindling Snuggie craze by creating Snuggie-esque wraps that feature Superman and Wonder Woman on the front. Like the Snuggie, these comfy wraps protect from the cold, leave hands free, and make you look as ridiculous in front as you look in back. Would you wear a super heroine wrap? [Fashionably Geek]
Drug dealers can be so crafty when it comes to smuggling narcotics. Spanish police recently busted a gang of dealers who figured out how to mold cocaine into replicas of Manolo Blahnik shoes. When arrested, the six dealers, five Colombians and one Spaniard, possessed $630,000 worth of cocaine that had been mixed with a liquid to form a paste that was carefully sculpted and painted to mimic luxury high heels. Each pair of coke shoes has an estimated worth of $70,000 — while a real pair of Manolos can cost upwards of $500. At the top of the drug-smuggling ring was a couple who organized the transport of the cocaine from Colombia to Spain, where the paste was changed back to powder and distributed for sale in Spain and throughout Europe.
Replicating cocaine paste to look like Manolo Blahnik shoes is just another indication that drug dealers are finding more inventive ways to smuggle their drugs. But even high fashion is no disguise against Spanish police, who have also found cocaine disguised as replica sculptures, a cast for a man’s broken leg, and a complete 42-piece tea set. [NY Post
A recent study found that only 7 percent of women love their hair, yet we spend a ton of time grooming it. But wouldn’t life just be easier if we covered up with a hat on the bad hair days? Here are 11 of our favorite, finger-snap-approved hats for bad hair days … or every day, really.
For as long as we can remember, we’ve lived by the philosophy that you can tell a lot about a man by his choice in footwear. But lately, we’ve been ogling men’s shoes sartorially, rather than with a love connection in mind. Even though our feet are too small for most men’s footwear, we couldn’t help but put together some of the sneakers, boots, and shoes we wish we could wear. Here are 12 shoe options for the men of The Frisky.
