Today a very special day, friends. It’s Connie Britton’s birthday! To say we love Connie would be a massive understatement. We are ridiculously obsessed with Connie. As Tami Taylor, she gave us the mother/best friend/wife/sister we always wanted. As Rayna James, she became our new favorite fictional country singer. As Vivien Harmon on the first season of “American Horror Story,” we prayed for her triumph over that scary haunted house. In real life, she’s a Planned Parenthood-supporting badass. Growing up watching “The Original Series,” “The Next Generation,” “Deep Space Nine” and “Voyager,” we found plenty of smart, outspoken, compassionate, powerful women to look up to. In fact, the ladies of “Star Trek” taught us some of our most enduring feminist lessons. Click through to check out our favorite Starfleet feminists–and the important lessons we learned from them!
On the surface, “Star Trek Into Darkness” certainly looks like a typical dude movie. It’s got huge explosions, spaceships, fighting, and futuristic weapons. Obviously we would have loved it even if it was the most manly movie in history, but after seeing it for ourselves we were surprised to discover that, in many ways, it’s actually a total chick flick. How is this possible, you ask? Let us count the ways… Keep reading »
