The 15 Best Videos Of 2008

It’s been a big year! I just spent the last few hours pouring through the hundreds of videos we’ve posted on The Frisky, trying to determine which 15 were the funniest, the cutest, the most inspiring, simply the BEST. It was a tough call, but we hope you’ll agree that the 15 videos after the jump, which we wrote about this year on The Frisky are worth rewatching again and again and again. Keep reading »

Will Recessionistas Budget For Botox?

The New York Times has an interesting story in today’s Style section about how the recession and tanking economy will affect the cosmetic surgery and beauty industries. Will people, specifically women, start scrimping on beauty products and cut spending on Botox, boob jobs, pricey gym memberships, and fad diets?

Indeed, a few indicators suggest that financial constraints are beginning to interrupt the narrative of better living through surgery — at least temporarily. Sixty-two percent of plastic surgeons who responded to a recent questionnaire from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons said they had performed fewer procedures in the first half of this year compared with the same period last year, according to the latest anecdotal information from the group.

Personally, I don’t think this will last. The pursuit of perfection is a vice and an addiction, and like sex and booze, which thrive during tough economic times, the desire to look better and younger will never die. Keep reading »

The Breakup Diaries: That’s All Folks!

A friend asked me last night, “Do you wish your breakup had been over and done with quickly, like ripping a band-aid off? Or was it easier having it take awhile for the relationship to be completely done?” To be honest, I wish it had just ended; that it had been completely and irrevocably done immediately, rather than the long, drawn out, painful process that it’s been. I’ve also thought a lot about what would have been “better” circumstances for my breakup from my fiance — would it have helped, in the long run, if he had cheated? Been a complete and total a-hole? I’m not sure. One thing I do know, however, is that allowing my relationship to be “in limbo” for three months made my breakup feel incredibly fresh when my ex told me — over the phone! — on Sunday that he was no longer in love with me. Those words hadn’t been said yet, I had been holding out hope that perhaps there was a way we could work things out, that down the line we would work out way back to each other. But hearing him say he was no longer in love with me gutted me with the same feeling I had the day he said he needed space and that he wasn’t sure if he wanted to get married — but it dulled far more quickly this time and filled me with the resolve that things were OVER and I was much better off. Can The Dog Whisperer Train Hemingway Simpson-Wentz?

Everyone’s favorite wife banger, Pete Wentz, and his lovely spouse, Ashlee Simpson, are going to be on an upcoming episode of “The Dog Whisperer.” It’s clear from the preview above, taped before Bronx Mowgli’s arrival, that Ashlee is way worried that their bulldog Hemingway is going to hump her new baby to death. Will Cesar Millan’s techniques (which consist of making sounds like “psst!”, poking pups in the ribs, and teaching them to run on a treadmill) work so that the Simpson-Wentz family doesn’t have to send Hemingway away? Let’s hope! If not, I will take the little bugger. He’s cute. Keep reading »

The Last 31 Days Of 2008: Buy Something You Can Write Off On April 15

There’s only 16 days left in 2008 and 120 days left until you absolutely HAVE TO pay taxes. That’s why you should make any big purchases, which can be written off, before the end of the year — for example, I seriously need a computer at home so I don’t have to tote my laptop home every evening. If I hit up the Mac store and buy it before December 31, I’ll be able to write it off on my taxes when I file on April 15. Yeah, yeah, yeah, the economy is in shambles and a computer is a big purchase, but if you need something anyway, you should buy it now so you can benefit financially, at least a little, in 2009.

See all the ways to make the most of the last 31 days of 2008 here. Keep reading »
