First dates are stressful, no question. Unfortunately, as the time of the big event draws nearer, so does the panic of what to wear. While the dude probably won’t decide to propose to you based on the height of your heel, we get the desire to look presentable, sexy, cute and approachable all at once, which is no easy feat. What if you come off too aggressive or too prim? What if your outfit gives off the entirely wrong impression? Keeping all of these MAGE concerns in mind, we’ve come up with a few helpful tips, after the jump. Keep reading »
No one can accuse Miss Rachel Zoe of lacking style street cred. The ultimate of the fashionista clan, Rachel is responsible for some of the best red carpet looks seen in the digital era. While all of her fabulous clients, and indeed they are all fabulous, constantly top the charts of the best dressed lists, the look is somewhat generic. All of Rachel’s girls look put together and fashion forward, but it has been a long time since I have seen anything “bananas” from her. While the usual blond wavy hair, loads of accessories and bold colored mini dress look is perfect for the fashion challenged or fashion phobic, we truly hope she leaves some celebs styles alone. We certainly hope Rachel was not meeting with Jessica Alba on business matters as I do not wish the stu Keep reading »
The title is actually not the beginning of a joke. As unlikely as it may sound, this was gist of my most of my weekend. A little bit of background is necessary. Three years ago an Israeli is sitting in his room in Jerusalem getting ready to attend college in the US. He receives an email notifying him of the name and address of his freshman year roommate. To his surprise, the name and address are Iranian. What does he do: nothing. Despite the tensions in the region and possible conflicts, he decides not to complain to the college (whether this was out of cultural curiosity, tolerance, or extreme laziness remains a mystery). Simultaneously in another part of the world an Iranian receives his notification and pretty quickly surmises that his roommate is a Jew from Israel. He also decides to do nothing. Whether the college intentionally put two students from opposing countries together to foster international relations or some admissions director thought it would be a grand joke also remains a mystery. More likely than not it was just a screw up as both students later received an email inquiring as to their level of “comfortableness.” Both were comfortable and were now roommates. The unlikely combination of an Israeli and Iranian choosing to live together became more unlikely when the Iranian started dating a Palestinian. The unlikely group became an inseparable one. Sacha Baron Cohen has never been known as one to tread lightly on delicate issues such as race, religion or sexuality, and the newly released “Bruno” proves no exception. Playing Bruno, a dopey gay Austrian fashion commentator and overall clown, Cohen faces (or more accurately flings himself and awkwardly tackles) controversy on all fronts. Knowing that reactions to the highly anticipated film would be strong, we at The Frisky decided to stay up late and attend the opening night midnight showing and get firsthand reactions from audience members. Staying up was easy, but recovering from our shock and regaining the ability to speak after the barrage of awkward and uncomfortable comedy was another matter entirely. What people thought of the movie, after the jump. Keep reading »
There is an old adage along the lines of “real life is stranger than fiction.” Apparently a man from my sleepy town in Connecticut was arrested for having sex with his cow…again. Oh yes, the local dude was arrested once before a few years ago for doing the nasty with his cow. I am not sure what was the most disturbing element of this story: the fact that he was caught having sex with his cow, that he was caught again, or that he was single at the time of the first arrest and he was (and, to my knowledge, still is) engaged at the time of his second arrest. Inspired by this bizarre story I went to searching for other random crimes committed in the past few days. Read about the weirdest and wackiest ways the law has been broken, after the jump. The discussion of the trials and tribulations of long distance relationships is not a new one. Some swear a couple can survive the distance while others refuse to entertain the possibility that two people can stay connected when there is significant mileage between them. I used to be a bit of a compulsive long distance dater. My first two serious relationships were with British boys, which would soon later develop into a habit of only getting involved with foreign guys. Until recently I never questioned if getting involved in a relationship which is destined to be mostly long distance was a good idea. In my mind, if I was in love it would be sheer madness not to stay together. If true love can overcome death in “The Princess Bride” than of course it can overcome a minor issue such as distance. A few years and broken hearts later, I am not so sure. Keep reading »
