Corduroy Skirts Are A Sin!

The photo alone is funny, but here’s the background story. Chris Pesto (the guy holding the cord skirts are a sin sign) is a student at Syracuse University and noticed two people holding “homosexuality is a sin” signs on campus. Though he supports their right to express their, uh, opinion, Pesto—who is gay—wanted to express his as well. He wrote on his Facebook page:

“This woman was wearing a ankle-length corduroy skirt, which, as we all know, is a fashion nono. So, in order to make her feel uncomfortable, I stood next to her and held a sign that said Corduroy skirts are a sin! I don’t think I have ever drawn so much attention in my life. SO many people asked to take a picture with me, I got laughs, high fives and there were the few that even cursed off the woman standing behind me.”

Pesto was joined by others also expressing their support of gay rights and he was even interviewed by the local news. No word on whether the hatemonger took his fashion advice and chucked her skirt in the trash. [The F Bomb]

Sex & Celluloid: What The Hell Is Wrong With Robert Pattinson?

Does Robert Pattinson Have Howard Hughes Syndrome?

I’m sorry, I didn’t see “New Moon.” I’m not even one of those too-cool-for-“Twilight” hipsters or anything, in fact, I read the first book in Stephanie Meyers’ Twilight series, saw the first movie, and actually thought, Wow I love vampires and they are attractive and I would like to have sex with them. But then I remembered I could just go watch “True Blood,” which is an equally guilty pleasure, but has a lot more grave-sex and, well, sex in general (thanks HBO!). But just to reiterate: I’m not anti-“Twilight,” and if someone asked me I would probably put myself on Team Edward, even though I might feel some underlying white guilt since as far as i can tell, “New Moon” is a loose interpretation of the story of the original Pilgrims, what with the Native American werewolves fighting the European clan of vampires and what-not. Just in time for Thanksgiving too!

FriskyScopes With Kiki T
For The Week Of November 30-December 6, 2009

Sagittarius (November 22-December 21)
Let your idealism run away with you and expect more than you imagined. The only way to get what you want in life is to aim high. If you keep short-changing yourself, thinking no one can give you that fantasy, then you might as well throw in the towel. But this week, things are going to change; though, you must set the target with a vision for all to come into your line of fire.

Quotable: Patrick Stewart On Speaking Out Against Domestic Violence

Patrick Stewart On Speaking Out Against Domestic Violence

“The truth is that domestic violence touches many of us. It is very possible that someone you know – a friend, sister, daughter or colleague – is experiencing abuse. One in four women will experience domestic violence at some point in her lifetime. And every week two women are killed by a current or former partner in England and Wales, and 10 women take their own lives as the only way they know how to escape a violent partner. You are almost certainly paying for it. Domestic violence costs around £26bn a year in medical, legal and housing costs ... This violence is not a private matter. Behind closed doors it is shielded and hidden and it only intensifies. It is protected by silence – everyone’s silence ... Most people find the idea of violence against women – and sometimes, though rarely, against men - abhorrent, but do nothing to challenge it. More women and children, just like my mother and me, will continue to experience domestic violence unless we all speak out against it.”

—Actor Patrick Stewart on his experience as a child with domestic violence and why he supports Refuge’s “Four Ways To Speak Out” anti-domestic violence campaign in an essay for the UK’s The Guardian

Blind Item: The Real Reason Behind The Shaved Head Trend?

The Real Reason Behind The Shaved Head Trend?

This blind item is so juicy and sad if it’s true. All of this is alleged, of course—via Crazy Days and Nights:

“This female singer has a very unique hair style. She said she came up with the idea on her own. I’m sure she did after the fact. It was necessitated though by the fact she got into a fight with her idiot A-list singer/producer boyfriend who took a pair of scissors and cut huge chunks of hair off our female singer’s head.”

Your theories? Ours is, well, obvious.
