President Obama was the cutest groomsman in his aide’s wedding

If you’re already deeply sad to see President Obama leave office next week, this story about how adorable he is might make you cry actual tears, and for that, I am sorry. Last weekend, Obama was a groomsman in his aide’s wedding, and it was just about the cutest thing he’s ever done. Sure, there are endless things to get done when you have less than two weeks left to save the country, but he knows it’s important to make time for friends.

Personal aide to the president Marvin Nicholson married Helen Pajcic in Jacksonville, Florida Saturday with the president by his side. The wedding was at a private residence near the St. John’s River and was closed to the media, The Washington Post reports. Obama went solo, with FLOTUS staying in Washington, and arrived with White House aides and Secret Service agents all in tuxedos.

Nicholson plans Obama’s trips and often plays golf with the leader of the free world. He’s been his aide the entire eight years Obama has been in office, so there’s no doubt the two have grown close. Both the bride and groom worked on Obama’s 2008 campaign, and Pajcic recently worked on policy for the U.S. Department of Education, according to The Post.

If you look closely, you can also see that Secretary of State John Kerry officiated the wedding. Nicholson worked as Kerry’s personal aide when he ran for president in 2004, and it’s safe to say his professional contacts really came through for his wedding. Imagine being a random guest and sitting down to see the president and secretary of state standing next to the groom — certainly not your average wedding party.

I sincerely hope President Obama and Secretary Kerry got to attend the bachelor party beforehand. But if not, they’ll have much more free time to party with their buds soon, so they can make up for it.
