Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt agree to seal divorce proceedings

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s split has been a contentious one. The pair have been in an ongoing battle over custody since Jolie filed for divorce in September. Jolie seeks physical custody while Pitt wants joint custody. Back in November the FBI closed its child abuse investigation. For the first time two are putting on a united front in a joint statement released to CNN today.

Both parties have agreed to seal all divorce court documents to protect the privacy of their six children. In the statement released to CNN they estranged couple said:

The parties and their counsel have signed agreements to preserve the privacy rights of their children and family by keeping all court documents confidential and engaging a private judge to make any necessary legal decisions and to facilitate the expeditious resolution of any remaining issues. The parents are committed to act as a united front to effectuate recovery and reunification.

This statement comes only a month after Pitt was denied an emergency hearing in which he was requesting all divorce proceedings be sealed. But Jolie’s camp wasn’t having it. They claimed the request was an attempt to “shield himself, rather than the minor children, from public view.” Since then Pitt filed documents saying Jolie was “determined to ignore even agreed upon standards relating to the children’s best interest.”

It’s nice to see some civility between the couple who were married in 2014 and who’d been together for over 10 years. Pitt made his first public appearance at Sunday’s Golden Globes. The two have remained a low profile while divorcing.
