Yolanda Hadid isn’t here for anyone sexualizing throwback photo of Gigi and Bella in angel wings

Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Yolanda Hadid, a former model herself, had a proud mommy moment last week. Her model daughters, Gigi and Bella Hadid, walked for the first time in Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in Paris. The Hadid family visualized this moment into existence 17 years ago, when the sisters posed naked in Victoria’s Secret angel wings.

A simple “dreams do come true!” moment was inevitably turned into something ugly when commenters pointed out that they deemed the girls nudity inappropriate. In the photo, the young Gigi and Bella sit on their knees adorned in nothing but gold necklaces and white wings. Their long blonde hair and the wings cover their pre pubescent chests while their hands are cupped over their vaginas. “17 years after I photographed my ‘ANGELS’ Today is the day that they will be walking in the fashion show together……… #Excited #Grateful#Paris #VS #Sisters #ProudMommy,” Yolanda wrote on Instagram.

People promptly freaked out, sexualizing two little girls in what is an innocent photo. “In a different culture and different era, maybe such a picture would be perceived as innocuous as it obviously is,” one commenter wrote. “But it’s a picture that in this culture and era is problematic to have publicly disseminated like this and I believe you will ultimately take it down.”

“A little weird…” wrote another.

The HBIC Hadid didn’t take those critiques lightly. She fired back, “Anybody who sexualizes a innocent picture of 3&4 year old babies in angel wings has a serious problem in my opinion and should immediately unfollow me!” Yolanda wrote. “There is absolutely nothing sexual about this photo in my opinion but of course everyone has the right to their opinion but please only follow those who inspire you and leaving nasty comments on someone’s page while hiding behind a computer screen is something that needs to be looked at here not a baby picture that has a sentimental value to me.”

Since she posted the photo five days ago, she’s turned off the comments. It’s sad that little girls are sexualized as early as 3 years old. This picture is not much different than cute old throwback photos of young kids — boys and girls — in a bathtub — everyone’s parents have at least one of these photos. But the way society views girls’ breasts and vaginas for sexual pleasure only turns an innocuous photo of two girls posing into something sexual.

Whether or not you would post a nude photo of your 3 and 4 year old daughters is a personal preference. But sexualizing babies will always be gross. They are kids and should allowed to be viewed as such until adulthood.
