West Virginia mayor resigns after gleefully responding to FB post calling Michelle Obama an “ape in heels”

Racists are spewing their verbal diarrhea all over the place since the election of The Cheeto, but they haven’t quite learned that posting said racist opinions on social media is not a bright idea for someone who wants to remain gainfully employed. Clay County, West Virginia Mayor Beverly Whaling learned this first hand. Whaling resigned after commenting on a FB friend’s racist post about First Lady Michelle Obama. How a woman so stupid was elected mayor is beyond me — judging you fine folks in the city of Clay.

Whaling’s FB friend, Clay County Development Corp. director Pamela Ramsey Taylor, celebrated The Cheeto’s win with a racist FB post calling Michelle Obama an ape. Taylor wrote, “It will be refreshing to have a classy, beautiful, dignified First Lady in the White House. I’m tired of seeing a Ape in heels.” Mayor Whaling thought it was a good idea to respond to this disgusting racist post by commenting, “Just made my day Pam.”

I wonder if that unemployment office will also make her day.

Because this is the internet and things like screen grabs exist, the backlash was swift. Whaling’s resignation is effective immediately, according to the Associated Press. Whaling’s brief statement pointed out that she’s not racist because of course all racists think they’re not racist.

“I would like to apologize for any unintentional harm caused by my comment. My comment was not intended to be racist at all. I was referring to my day being made for the change in the White House! I am truly sorry for any hard feeling this may have caused! Those who know me, know that I am not in any way racist! Again, I would like to apologize for this getting out of hand!” the statement read.

Oh, it gets much sweeter. Her buddy Taylor was reportedly placed on leave once the post went public. “While we respect Ms. Taylor’s right to free speech, we strongly oppose any form of racism or hate speech,” Joe Murphy, vice chairman of the Clay Democratic Executive Committee, told The West Virginia Gazette-Mail. “We fully support our president and the first lady.”

Racism costs. Hope unemployment’s worth it, gals.

Before Whaling resigned a petition calling for her termination reached over 180,000 signatures even though Clay County only has an estimated population of 648 people. Clearly it wasn’t the people of Clay County demanding this resignation because 70 percent of them voted for the guy who shall remain nameless.

Michelle Obama has been the target of constant racially motivated attacks, including everything from being called “an angry black woman” to the cartoon portraying her physique as masculine. Black people called monkeys or said to look like monkeys is so 1922. Like, can racists not come up with more creative insults in 2016?

Well, if there’s any consolation in all of this racism, it’s that we don’t play about Michelle Obama. Come for her and the internet will end you. You will find yourself next to Whaling and Taylor, updating your resume in pursuit of a new gig.
